Sergio Aguero got a grilling from Pep Guardiola after taking on a burger challenge in the international break. The Manchester City striker spent time in the United States last week after not being picked in the Argentina squad for two games with Mexico, and the 30-year-old posed for a video at an LA eatery biting into a multi-coloured burger. City coach Guardiola has insisted that his players can do what they like during their time away from the club, but the footage found its way back to the manager. "He is a friend of mine from Los Angeles," Aguero told Skysports . "It was just for the picture, I wasn't going to eat it all. After that, Pep told me: 'What are you doing eating that?'" Instagram However, Aguero remains in the manager's good books. He leads the Premier League scoring charts this season with eight goals and has signed a contract extension until 2021. That was not necessarily expected when Guardiola arrived at the club in 2016 and made it clear the striker … [Read more...] about Pep Guardiola happy with Sergio Aguero…despite THAT burger!

Q: Who is Pep Guardiola? Thank you for inviting me. I love to be in universities. I have a regret because I became a football player so soon but I was a really good student when I was young but after maybe I was better playing football so I decided to go down another route. Always I missed this chance to go to university. Q: What is football to you? It’s my love, it’s my passion. It’s almost everything for me. Sport has given me absolutely everything; to understand life, to be a better person - or try to be a better person. But I was so lucky to be a football player and a manager at a high level. It’s difficult to understand my life without football. I am a lucky guy because my passion became my job. Q: How do you inspire people? How are you successful in life? “There’s no advice for that. Every life must be lived in itself. There’s no trick. Some new managers come to watch us and they want to discover the secret of what we are doing. There is … [Read more...] about Pep Guardiola Q&A: City boss on life, football and the best league in the world
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has joked that he does not read because when he does he invariably ends up reading about Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp, and he “can’t be f***ed with that”. Speaking in a lecture at Liverpool University this week, Guardiola answered questions on a range of different subjects, from the political situation in Catalonia to the nature of his job in charge of City and the Premier League in general. Asked what books he enjoys reading, Guardiola drew laughs by replying: “I don't read. I start reading and before I know it I am reading about Jurgen Klopp. I can't be f***ed with that.” On a more serious note, Guardiola reiterated that despite his remarkable success as a coach in Spain and Germany, winning in England poses a unique challenge. “It's the toughest one,” he insisted. “For the amount of games, for the weather, the referees saying play, play, play. There are many contenders [to win the … [Read more...] about Pep Guardiola jokes he ‘can’t be f***ed’ with reading about Jurgen Klopp
Pep Guardiola bristled when Gary Neville pointed out last month how many fouls Fernandinho makes each game, stopping opposition counter-attacks, but he cannot have been too upset to see the success of the same tactic on Sunday afternoon. Guardiola could never admit that he tells his players to foul – “I would never ask my players to deliberately foul an opponent” – but he must also know that his players understand their responsibilities. And the way City play, defending high up the pitch, with everyone except for two or three outfield players committed forward, only sharpens their tasks. “The responsibility on me is big,” Fernandinho admitted out this week. “I have conversations with Pep all the time about my role, and also with Mikel Arteta. It is my job to fix things in the middle of the pitch. If the opponents break our lines and are attacking our box, something has gone wrong with me. And it is me who has to fix it.” Sure … [Read more...] about Pep Guardiola may not admit it but Fernandinho is Manchester City’s insurance policy
Manchester City Football Club has yet to formally deny a single word. There has been just one statement partway through the tidal wave of finely-detailed, document-led allegations that the Abu Dhabi-owned club systematically and repeatedly broke the rules of the competition the Gulf monarchy has spent a decade trying to buy. “We will not be providing any comment on out of context materials purportedly hacked or stolen from City Football Group and Manchester City personnel and associated people,” read the 38-word response. “The attempt to damage the club’s reputation is organised and clear.” The allegations, which came to light in German newspaper Der Spiegel are as follows... Bypassing UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations by structuring sponsorship deals with Abu Dhabi-owned companies such as Etihad Airways in which just 12 per cent of the money flooding on to City’s books came from the airline itself, the remainder paid by the club’s … [Read more...] about Castles: Man City, FFP and the danger posed to Pep Guardiola’s reputation
