Marvin Rees is facing calls to invest £53million into north Bristol road and rail improvements over fears the area will become a 'massive car park' if the long-awaited arena is built in Filton. The Bristol Conservative group is urging the Labour Mayor to look at the road system and reopen the full Henbury Loop rail line to cope with the influx of visitors to the the proposed 16,000-seat Filton arena. Labour MP for Bristol North West, Darren Jones, has also been campaigning for a North Bristol transport fund to improve congestion ahead of the lifting of the Severn Bridge tolls at the end of the year. The £53million would come from Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) money originally allocated to the Bristol Arena project at Temple Island.
