Super Bowl commercials: MJ and Bugs Bunny, Budweiser and David Beckham half naked… best ads from over the years

· February 2, 2021 ·

WITH over 100million viewers in America, the Super Bowl is one of the biggest dates in the US calendar. And where there's such a huge audience, there's an opportunity for advertisers that they will break the bank to take. A commercial during the Super Bowl doesn't come cheap and executives try their utmost to make them catchy, memorable and creative. The first AFL- NFL Championship Game 51 years ago cost £32,000 for a 30-second advert. In recent years, the price has risen to $5million and this year's broadcasters CBS are expected to start at the same amount. It usually means paying a lot more in production costs and A-list talent to make the most of their 30 seconds in the spotlight. The Space Jam movie came four years after Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny initially teamed up in a Super Bowl advert. Anyone remember the “Whassup?” advert while “watching the game, having a Bud”, that too started out as a Super Bowl commercial. Here are some of the best from over … [Read more...] about Super Bowl commercials: MJ and Bugs Bunny, Budweiser and David Beckham half naked… best ads from over the years

Lee Mack show The Chop dropped as bosses investigate ‘Nazi tattoos’ on contestant’s face

· October 21, 2020 ·

LEE Mack's new show The Chop has been pulled off air after a contestant appeared with "Nazi tattoos" on his face. Sky History tonight explained that no episodes of the series would be broadcast while the meaning of the inkings, which include a large '88', were investigated. Earlier today, the channel released a clip from The Chop: Britain's Top Woodworker - and introduced a man called Darren. They called him "the Bloke-With-All-The-Tattoos" but some including comedian Katherine Ryan claimed they had spotted neo-Nazi inkings. A spokesman for Sky History told The Sun tonight: "While we further investigate the nature, and meaning, of Darren’s tattoos, we have removed the video featuring him from our social media pages. "We will not be broadcasting any episodes of The Chop: Britain’s Top Woodworker until we have concluded that investigation. "Sky History stands against racism and hate speech of all kinds." According to the Anti-Defamation League, 88 - which appears … [Read more...] about Lee Mack show The Chop dropped as bosses investigate ‘Nazi tattoos’ on contestant’s face

Golden Globes 2021: Daniel Kaluuya on mute, animal invasions and too many doors – the seven best moments

· March 1, 2021 ·

It was a night when stars accepted awards in tracksuit bottoms, pyjamas and hoodies from rooms with too many doors, and the hosts presented from different coasts (albeit with a whizzy background to make them appear united). But despite heading into the 78th Golden Globes under a cloud of criticism over lack of diversity and dubious nomination choices , the ceremony was relatively hitch-free. Finishing (almost) on time, and with an admirable cast of winners (including a host of British stars) there were laughs, tears and glimpses of stars' homes across the world as Hollywood enjoyed its first big awards ceremony of 2021. We take a look at seven of the best bits of the night. Golden Globes updates: Here's what happened at the virtual ceremony Daniel, you're on mute! Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy to face trial over corruption allegations

· March 29, 2018 ·

Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy will face trial over charges of corruption and misuse of influence, France's financial prosecutor says. The former leader will stand trial over claims he used his influence to secure leaked details of an inquiry into alleged irregularities during his 2007 election campaign. A lawyer for Sarkozy, who was in office from 2007 to 2012, said the former president would be appealing against the decision to send the case to trial. Charges were pressed after investigators used phone-taps to look into separate allegations that the late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi funded Mr Sarkozy's campaign. They started to suspect that the 63-year-old had kept tabs on a separate case through a network of informants. Advertisement Mr Sarkozy is alleged to have accepted €50m (£43.8m) from Gaddafi's regime, claims which have been repeated by the dictator's son and French businessman Ziad Takieddine. The amount would be more than … [Read more...] about Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy to face trial over corruption allegations
