METAPHOR OF THE YEAR: Terrific scenes at the finish line of yesterday’s London marathon. Presumably you’ve seen it by now, but here’s the Big Ben video in all its glory. And congratulations: To all the other Playbookers who made it round the course yesterday. Fourteen MPs completed the race (here’s a pic) and hats off to all for a truly magnificent effort. The fastest MP this year was West Aberdeenshire’s Andrew Bowie, who finished his first-ever London marathon in just three hours 40 minutes. He pipped last year’s fastest MP — and fellow Scottish Tory — John Lamont into second place by just two minutes. Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns was third among MPs, coming home just three minutes later in three hours 45. Brexit Day is now four days away, unless or until (h/t Michel Barnier) the EU agrees a further extension this week. Driving to work this morning? Get ready — the new tax on high-polluting vehicles in central London launches today. The ultra low emission zone (ULEZ) has the same boundaries as the existing congestion charge zone, but unlike the congestion charge, it applies 24/7 and there is no exemption for motorbikes and scooters. Older vehicles and diesels will be caught by the new £12.50-a-day charge, which must be paid on top of the existing congestion charge. It’s going to be controversial, with businesses warning many motorists simply don’t know enough about it. Mayor Sadiq Khan insists the scheme is necessary to save lives. BRIT ISIS bride Shamima Begum has today said that losing her UK citizenship is "heartbreaking" and unjust. The moaning teenager, who fled the UK to join the terror group in 2015, was yesterday revealed to have been stripped of her citizenship by the Home Office. Speaking from the camp in Syria where she's being held, she told ITV: "I'm a bit shocked... It's a bit unjust on me and my son." The 19-year-old, who gave birth to her baby boy on Sunday, said she had not been informed of the decision when she received the letter. She added: "I don't know what to say. I am not that shocked but I am a bit shocked. It’s a bit upsetting and frustrating. I feel like it’s a bit unjust on me and my son. "It’s kind of heartbreaking to read. My family made it sound like it would be a lot easier for me to come back to the UK when I was speaking to them in Baghouz. It’s kind of hard to swallow. "I heard that other people are being sent back to Britain so I don’t know why my … [Read more...] about ISIS bride Shamima Begum moans it’s ‘unjust’ after she’s stripped of British citizenship
ISIS bride Shamima Begum could still have a chance of returning to the UK despite losing her British citizenship. The 19-year-old's family was told she would have her citizenship revoked in a letter from the Home Office, seen by ITV News. This can happen because she is a dual British-Bangladeshi national, according to Sky News sources. An immigration law expert, however, told Mirror Online that through her baby, who was born on Saturday, she could get her nationality back. The lawyer said she may also get a 'limited leave to remain' in the UK for a temporary period of time so she can be in the country with her baby. Ms Begum might also be given more time to appeal the decision to revoke her citizenship than is standard because she is 'trapped', according to the lawyer. Asif Salam, an immigration solicitor from Salam Immigration in London told Mirror Online: “The baby is British, so maintains his nationality. “The child cannot possibly live without his mother, it’s not … [Read more...] about Why ISIS bride could still return to UK despite losing her British citizenship
