Ex-Aviva CEO Wilson returns to fray with insurance venture Abacai

· February 24, 2021 ·

Mark Wilson, the former Aviva chief executive, is staging a return to the British insurance sector by spearheading a new venture to target a share of the £16bn motor insurance market. Sky News has learnt that Mr Wilson has teamed up with Sun Capital Partners, a London-based private equity firm, to launch Abacai Holdings, an insurance technology - insurtech - company. The business will be created by merging Abacai with Complete Cover Group (CCG), an insurance distribution and underwriting business owned by Sun Capital. Insiders said that Abacai intended to invest £50m in creating a new artificial intelligence platform, underlining the growing use of data and AI across an industry which has traditionally been slow to embrace cutting-edge technology. Insurance renewals face curbs to reverse £1.2bn ‘loyalty penalty’

· September 22, 2020 ·

The City regulator has announced plans to curb charging practices for automatic home and car insurance renewals, to help restore "fair value and trust" in the market. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) said its proposals would ensure that customers would pay no more on renewals than if they were a new customer to their provider. It was the headline measure as the watchdog moved to tackle findings in 2018 that six million consumers' failure to switch providers meant they were paying a £1.2bn "loyalty penalty". The FCA hoped its proposed shake-up, which is now subject to consultation, would save households £3.7bn over 10 years. It explained that its planned renewal restriction would only apply through the same sales channel. Advertisement For example, if the customer bought the policy online, they would be charged the same price as a new customer buying online. Firms would be free to set new-business prices, but they would be prevented from … [Read more...] about Insurance renewals face curbs to reverse £1.2bn ‘loyalty penalty’

· February 24, 2021 ·

Brits won't own their dream car until they are 47 but it must be a black sports car - preferably an Audi or Aston Martin, according to research. A study of 2,000 drivers found many know what they want, but most will have to wait before making the dream a reality, owning more practical or affordable alternatives in the meantime. In their twenties, Brits are most likely to own a supermini or saloon car, while a hatchback or an estate are popular choices for those in their thirties. On reaching the big 4-0 Brits are more likely to opt for an SUV or people carrier. But no matter what the car, people insist on the 'basic' luxuries like heated seats (43 per cent) and built in satnav (44 per cent). Do you enjoy reading about politics?
