Over the last few days we have learned that Sir Nick Clegg, the president of global affairs at Meta, is moving back from America to the British capital. Alongside him will be the head of Instagram Adam Mosseri and very soon the head of marketing Alex Schultz as well. At this rate, it might just be simpler to move the whole company over to this side of the Atlantic. When they get here, they certainly won’t be short of internet-savvy neighbours. Alphabet, Apple, and Bloomberg, effectively a tech company dressed up as a media business, are all massively expanding their operations in London. Ironically, while the capital may have voted massively against our departure from the European Union, and staged every kind of demonstration against Brexit imaginable, it doesn’t seem to have stopped London from cementing its position as Europe’s key technology hub. It is racing ahead. And yet in truth, the city needs to turbo-charge its tech ambitions. If we finally get rid of the … [Read more...] about London must power up its post-Brexit tech boom

London Bridge terrorist was banned from entering London but was given a one-day exemption to attend ex-convict event
THE London Bridge terrorist was banned from entering London but had a one-day exemption to attend an ex-convict event, it emerged last night. Usman Khan , 28, from Staffordshire, was released from prison in December last year on condition he obey 20 strict conditions - which included not visiting the capital . But the killer "hoodwinked" authorities by travelling to the prisoner rehabilitation conference at Fishmongers' Hall where he launched his horror rampage on Friday. One academic who was there told the Mail On Sunday that Khan "suddenly just flipped". Khan fatally stabbed Jack Merritt, a 25-year-old course coordinator , and a woman, before heroic members of the public wrested him to the ground and armed cops shot him dead. 'RUSSIAN ROULETTE' The attack has prompted questions on why Khan, a convicted terrorist, had been released before the end of his original sentence. Khan was jailed in 2012 for his involvement in plans to blow up the London … [Read more...] about London Bridge terrorist was banned from entering London but was given a one-day exemption to attend ex-convict event
Author Patricia Nicol reveals a selection of the best books on: Holiday jobs
Do young people still do holiday and weekend jobs? I first went to work, at 15, as ‘a sweets girl’, making puddings such as knickerbocker glories, at a restaurant. My intention had been to save up to go Interrailing, but on a starting salary that I recall as £1.13, raised to £1.76 an hour, I was barely going to be able to reach the next town. Later, I had better-paid Saturday shop jobs, and would do (badly) silver service waitressing gigs. My university holiday jobs included waitressing, bar work, switchboard operating, teaching English as a foreign language to Italian and Greek schoolchildren. And, most bizarrely, dental nursing. British author Patricia Nicol has rounded up a selection of the best books on holiday jobs including Factory Girls by Michelle Gallen and The Summer Job by Lizzy Dent I learned a good deal from these jobs: that education is not the same as intelligence; that, in any workplace, there will always be some kind people determined … [Read more...] about Author Patricia Nicol reveals a selection of the best books on: Holiday jobs
‘He’s your best player’ – Kevin Pietersen urges England not to drop Jason Roy after latest Hundred failure
Kevin Pietersen has backed Jason Roy to rediscover his form and urged England not to drop the struggling opener, calling him the team’s ‘best player’. Roy, who starred in England’s 2019 World Cup win, has endured a poor summer, scoring 197 runs across 11 international innings. The 32-year-old has also made a subdued start to The Hundred, scoring ten runs in two games and falling for a first-ball duck in Oval Invincibles’ opening fixture against London Spirit. However, despite his lean run of form, Roy has received public support from England legend Pietersen, who says he should keep his place in the team for the T20 World Cup later in the year. ‘Jason is 32 and what I’m sick and tired of in this country is people getting written off at such a young age,’ Pietersen told Sky Sports. ‘Jason is a World Cup winner, he’s done an unbelievable job for Eoin Morgan [England’s former white-ball captain]. He was told by Eoin, like the whole team, to go and smack the ball. … [Read more...] about ‘He’s your best player’ – Kevin Pietersen urges England not to drop Jason Roy after latest Hundred failure
Moment hero civil servant arms himself with narwhal tusk to tackle killer London Bridge terrorist
A HERO civil servant arms himself with a narwhal tusk to tackle a killer terrorist. Darryn Frost grabbed the makeshift weapon when Usman Khan went on a knife frenzy which spilled out on to London Bridge. Mr Frost, 38, wielded the ornamental tusk while others used a decorative pike and a fire extinguisher to fight back, an inquest heard yesterday. The Ministry of Justice worker finally pinned Khan, who had worn a padded jacket over a fake suicide vest, to the ground before police shot him dead. Earlier Khan, 28, stabbed to death Cambridge graduates Jack Merritt , 25, and Saskia Jones , 23, at a prisoner rehabilitation event in Fishmongers’ Hall. Three more people were wounded. Inside Conor McGregor’s feud with Floyd Mayweather with ‘f***’ you’ suits and shocking trash talk ahead of boxing sequel
CONOR McGREGOR is set to do battle with Floyd Mayweather once again in a rematch of their iconic 2017 showdown. The Irishman is in talks for the sensational sequel which could be worth almost €1 BILLION. The Dubliner lost to 'Money' in what was a monumental crossover event which reportedly bagged the UFC ace over €100 MILLION. Their rematch, however, could see both men clear almost €450 MILLION. McGregor has not fought since breaking his leg last July, and despite speculation placing him against the likes of Jorge Masvidal, it looks likely that he will opt for the ring rather than the octagon. Their first fight was a surreal, monumental occasion which transcended the ropes within which it took place. The concept of McGregor vs Mayweather was teased well before 2017. In November 2016, McGregor suggested that he would 'get Mayweather out of bed' in the lead up to his clash with Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight title. By that point, Conor had won the … [Read more...] about Inside Conor McGregor’s feud with Floyd Mayweather with ‘f***’ you’ suits and shocking trash talk ahead of boxing sequel
