When Sören Claus talks about the project he heads as chief technical officer from his modest office in Annaberg-Buchholz, his eyes start to shine. To outsiders, his Smart Rail Connectivity Campus (SRCC) may sound a tad too technical — to Claus it's nothing less than the stuff that rail traffic's digital future in Europe is made of. It doesn't happen very often that the Saxon town of Annaberg in the Erzgebirge mountains close to the German-Czech border gets the attention of people dealing with next-generation mobility issues. Suella Braverman: Attorney general becomes first cabinet minister to go on maternity leave
Michael Ellis will take up the post of attorney general while Suella Braverman takes maternity leave, Downing Street has said. The government announced last month that legislation would be introduced to change the "clearly outdated" rules and allow her to take the leave. Ms Braverman will be designated Minister on Leave (Attorney General) during her six months of maternity leave. Mr Ellis has been temporarily promoted from solicitor general, with Lucy Frazer in turn replacing him. "The prime minister gives the attorney general his very best wishes for her maternity leave and looks forward to welcoming her back in the autumn," a Downing Street statement said. Virgin Media down – Mobile and TV customers were unable to make calls or watch telly
VIRGIN Media went down for mobile and TV customers this afternoon, leaving them unable to make calls and texts or watch telly. The problem started after midday with around 2,000 users reporting issues on outage tracking website DownDetector at its peak. Of those who reported issues at the time, 48% struggled with mobile internet, 42% with mobile phones and 9% reported TV problems. Complaints appeared about Virgin Media internet too, but the telecoms giant told The Sun it was unaware of problems with its broadband. Virgin Media said there was an issue with its TV and mobile services in Manchester, but says these problems have now been resolved. Hundreds of customers vented their frustrations with the issues on Twitter. One customer said on Twitter: "It’d be nice if Virgin Media’s TV service would run for more than a minute before it cuts out. "Been happening for about 3 hours now."
