Scotland’s top law officer – the Lord Advocate – has sent legislation on the country holding a referendum to the UK Supreme Court, and it has been reported that the ruling Scottish National Party (SNP) will be dealt a blow. According to documents published on Tuesday, the Lord Advocate, Dorothy Bain, "does not have the necessary degree of confidence" that MSPs in Holyrood can legislate for a referendum. Pound slides to two-year low against the dollar
By Tom Espiner Published 2 hours ago comments Comments Share close Share page Copy link About sharing The pound has fallen to a two-year low against the dollar reflecting traders' increasing concerns about recession around the world as energy prices continue to soar. But sterling is also weak because markets are worried about future UK economic growth, analysts said. Sterling could fall even further after predictions of economic stagnation and as inflation rises, they added. London shares regained some ground on Wednesday following Tuesday's falls. The resignation of two senior government ministers on Tuesday evening, including former Chancellor Rishi Sunak, was not a significant factor in the pound's fall, Rabobank head currency strategist Jane Foley told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme. I’ve driven the Lexus LC Convertible – here’s why it’s the best car that nobody buys
THIS is the Lexus LC500 Convertible and you've probably never seen one before. That's because despite it being one of the best open-tops currently on sale in Britain, Lexus only managed to sell 64 of them last year. And that was a good year - in 2020 it only sold 47. These figures include the hard-top LC too, so it doesn't look good for this Convertible. Admittedly there are a few things holding it back; unlike the hard-top LC the LC Convertible doesn't come with a hybrid engine, just a thumping great 5.0-litre V8. It's also the thick end of £100,000. Now, that sounds a lot, and it is a lot. But a Porsche 911 Cabriolet is just as expensive and sells by the bucket load and a Mercedes-AMG SL costs more while offering much the same thing. Most read in Motors SEEING RED Driver's outrageous attempt to avoid a red has everyone saying the same thing BACKFIRED I let a stranger park on my drive 8 months ago - now he won't move … [Read more...] about I’ve driven the Lexus LC Convertible – here’s why it’s the best car that nobody buys
‘Thanks Dave!’ Residents Cheer Chappelle After He Blocks Development, Buys 52-Acre Lot Near His Home | The Daily Wire
Dave Chappelle ’s neighbors cheered him after Chappelle bought the entire 52-acre lot near his home in Yellow Springs, Ohio, to block a proposed 140-home development. The amount Chappelle, who is estimated to be worth $60 million, paid for the area is undisclosed. “I have confirmation that Dave Chappelle bought the entire lot. We are talking about all the 52 acres,” village manager Josue Salmeron told the Daily Mail. “To me it is clear, the project isn’t going forward. The developers will not be building on that land.” “Signs proclaiming ‘Thanks Dave!’ now festoon several properties near the site, which is comprised of a large open field and acres of woodland in an area that could be comfortably described as pastoral bliss,” the Daily Mail added. In February, Chappelle told the village council where he lives, “You look like clowns,” as he voiced his opposition to the town accepting a developer’s plan to build single-family homes, duplexes, and townhouses near his property. … [Read more...] about ‘Thanks Dave!’ Residents Cheer Chappelle After He Blocks Development, Buys 52-Acre Lot Near His Home | The Daily Wire

UK gov to force tech firms to scan Brits’ private messages for child abuse images
Tech companies could soon be forced to scan UK citizens' private phones and messages for child sexual abuse material. The government has proposed a new policy as part of its controversial online safety bill that would see encrypted WhatsApp messages and other apps spied on by tech firms in the hope of stopping child abusers. Boy, 16, ‘lives his best life’ by wearing tuxedo and ballgown skirt to prom
A boy, 16, has become an internet star after stunning people at his school prom by wearing a bright red sequined tuxedo and ballgown skirt. Korben, who topped off his outfit with a crown, says he wanted to show ‘you can be who you want to be’. Onlookers clapped and some teachers reportedly wept as the teenager stepped out of his car at Archbishop Sancroft High School in Harleston.
