When I talk to people about the best Chinese restaurant in Scunthorpe, I usually get two answers - Pearl City and The Imperial. The latter has been popular with diners for many years and offers authentic Chinese food in a great setting. Having not been to the establishment for a few years, I decided to pay a visit to see if it is still worth the hype. What did we eat? After stepping through the impressive entrance, we sat down near the bar and looked through the menu. The waitress offered me a choice of beers and I decided to go with Lazy Buddha - one I haven't tried before. It was very refreshing. We were given prawn crackers and sweet and sour dip, then shown to our table, which was lovely and private. After looking through the menu for what seemed like an age (we couldn't quite decide what to get as there was so much choice), we finally decided upon the Imperial mixed hors d'oeuvre for two people. Leicestershire's Sapori Restaurant and Bar is celebrating after being named the Best Italian Restaurant in the Midlands. The Anstey eatery earned the accolade at the Midlands Food Drink and Hospitality Awards 2018, which took place in Birmingham last night. The awards aim to celebrate the great work done at the best eateries, restaurants, hotels and bars across central England. Sapori (Italian for 'flavours') was shortlisted for the Best Italian Restaurant award after a public vote put them in the region’s top five. The judging process included a visit from a mystery diner, who commended Sapori on their authentic Italian fine dining experience. The judging panel included food writer Andrew Adam Hayes and hospitality expert Ben Drayner.
