APRIL 12 marks the next phase of lockdown easing – including a cheeky loophole which means you can go INSIDE a pub. A handful have a 24-hour license – and are gearing up to welcome punters back as soon as the clock strikes 12, as Brits are set to sink 15million pints next week. Non-essential shops, hairdressers and theme parks, as well as restaurants with outdoor space, reopen in England on Monday. A legal loophole means even pubs without gardens can fling open their doors to customers. Pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes can utilise any outdoor space available to them as a makeshift drinking and dining area - an initiative first mooted last June. Pub-goers will be able to soak up the sun in beer gardens across the UK, with a ‘mini-heatwave’ expected. It comes as the single-dose Janssen vaccine is set to be approved in DAYS with the UK's fourth Covid jab expected to help widen the rollout to under-50s. A decision by the health regulator is expected to be made within … [Read more...] about Coronavirus news UK – Legal loophole means Brits CAN go inside pubs tomorrow as lockdown restrictions end at midnight

What 8 days’ national mourning for Prince Philip mean for government and Covid
The UK is in eight days of national mourning for Prince Philip , with Union flags at half mast on all government buildings until 8am next Sunday. MPs will return early from their Easter break tomorrow for tributes to the Duke of Edinburgh led by Boris Johnson , sitting from 2.30pm until as late as 10pm. The official Order Paper outlining the day's Commons business carries just the single debate, for “an Humble Address” to the Queen with “deepest sympathies” and “heartfelt thanks”. If you think this sounds like a vacuum of day-to-day government you’d be right. Other for essential public health business, all media activity has been suspended. That means no Covid press conferences, no press releases other than for essential public health reasons, and no ministers on media interviews. In accordance with protocol Labour have also withdrawn from public-facing activity during the mourning period. So what does that mean for the running of government and the coronavirus … [Read more...] about What 8 days’ national mourning for Prince Philip mean for government and Covid
Prince Philip: Queen described loss of Duke of Edinburgh as a ‘huge void in her life’, says Andrew
The Queen described her husband the Duke of Edinburgh's death as leaving a "huge void in her life", Prince Andrew has said. Paying tribute to his father, Prince Philip , the Duke of York said his death means "we've lost almost the grandfather of the nation". Andrew is feeling "very sorry and supportive of my mother who's feeling it probably more than everybody else", he added. Members of the Royal Family have been attending a service at the the Royal Chapel of All Saints of Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park. Talking about the wave of affection for him since his death, Prince Edward said his father "always thought of others before himself" and described the tributes to him as "fantastic". Edward told reporters: "It's been a bit of a shock. However much one tries to prepare oneself for something like this it's still a dreadful shock. "And we're still trying to come to terms with that. And it's very, very sad." Post Office chief Read delivers plan to share profits with postmasters
The government should explore plans to turn the Post Office into a profit-sharing business, allowing postmasters to participate in the future financial success of Britain’s largest retail network, its chief executive has said. Sky News has learnt that Nick Read, who has run the Post Office since the autumn of 2019, told colleagues last week that he wants ministers to sanction what would effectively amount to its partial mutualisation once its finances are in appropriate shape. The ambition, which was outlined by Mr Read in a speech to his senior leadership team on Friday, would potentially enable thousands of postmasters across the UK to receive a financial stake in the Post Office by the middle of the decade. "As we look towards the next Comprehensive Spending Review, I intend to work with government on the various means by which we could deliver on a longer-term aspiration to facilitate profit-sharing between Post Office Limited and postmasters when circumstances permit," … [Read more...] about Post Office chief Read delivers plan to share profits with postmasters
Prince Philip: Shared grief over Duke of Edinburgh’s death is ‘ideal opportunity’ to mend rifts in Royal Family, Sir John Major says
Shared grief over the death of the Duke of Edinburgh is an "ideal opportunity" to mend rifts within the Royal Family, former prime minister Sir John Major has said. His comments came after Cardinal Vincent Nichols, the head of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, suggested a coming-together for Prince Philip's funeral could help heal any tensions. Prince Harry laid bare details of friction with members of his family during an interview with Oprah Winfrey in March. Asked during an appearance on the BBC's Andrew Marr programme if he agreed with Cardinal Nichols, Sir John said: "I'm sure he is right, I hope he's right, I believe he is right and I certainly hope so. "The friction that we are told has arisen is a friction better ended as speedily as possible, and a shared emotion, a shared grief, at the present time because of the death of their father, their grandfather, I think is an ideal opportunity. "I hope very much that it is possible to mend any rifts that … [Read more...] about Prince Philip: Shared grief over Duke of Edinburgh’s death is ‘ideal opportunity’ to mend rifts in Royal Family, Sir John Major says
