Since she was a teenager, Alexandrina has been involved in various social, educational, economic and cultural projects. She is currently working in Brussels as a Board Member and the Chair of the Women Committee within JEUNE – the Young Entrepreneurs Organization of the European Union, while writing her PhD thesis. There's a strength in changing what is not working. There's a strength in letting go, forging anew and taking risks to be your authentic self. There's a strength doing this when perhaps those around you will not like the 'new' you. There's a strength in recognising that change is hard, as is life, but staying in the familiar, albeit 'uncomfortable, comfortable' stunts growth, builds resentment, anger, and regret as staleness and stalemates set in. We never grow out of having growing pains. Stagnation is the antithesis of growth. The idea for my book The Secret Lives of Adults was born out of hearing again and again an exasperated 'I thought I'd have it all figured out by now'. This adult fallacy created a destructive myth and blocked many trying new things. Chastising themselves that they 'should' know, as if adulthood had magical powers. Nottingham's High Street is an ever changing landscape with new shops, bars and restaurants opening regularly. This week Nottinghamshire Live reported House of Fraser in the intu Victoria Centre would be staying open after a deal was made in the eleventh hour . There is also the unfortunate cases of stores leaving our city. This week, cafe chain Patisserie Valerie announced it will close its Druckers Vienna Patisserie branch in the intu Victoria Centre . Santander's branch at 2 Clumber Street was also one of 140 announced for closure on Wednesday, January 23. There are still some big-name brands which are not currently in Nottingham, so we took to the streets to ask what you wanted to see set up shop. Earlier this week we asked you to share your thoughts on where you wanted to see CCTV in Ipswich.The question was raised as Ipswich Borough Council are set to replace 90% of cameras and change some of their locations next month. It's one of Middlesbrough's oldest, and most challenged, communities. Now locals are being asked - what do you want to see from North Ormesby? Those living or working in the area are being asked to speak up about what is important. It may have a reputation for crime and anti-social behaviour, but there are many in the area - from its businesses, residents and community groups to its outstanding schools - who are trying to change that. The ‘Your Choice North Ormesby’ event is looking for as many people as possible in the community to come along and have their say - and as a thank you for taking part, there will be a cash payment and goodie bags for residents.
