Nicola Sturgeon will work with anyone who supports the break-up of the UK, say Scottish Tories
Nicola Sturgeon has been accused of working with “anyone so long as they support the break-up of the UK” after meeting Sinn Fein’s vice president at her official residence. The First Minister held talks with Michelle O’Neill at Bute House in Edinburgh, after Sinn Fein became the largest party in the Northern Ireland Assembly for the first time at the Stormont election earlier this month. Ms O’Neill could now become Northern Ireland’s first nationalist first minister, meaning two of the three devolved administrations would be led by parties determined to hold votes on leaving the UK. Ms Sturgeon is expected to unveil legislation shortly for a second independence referendum , to be staged next year, while Sinn Fein wants a vote on Irish reunification . It is understood the two leaders did not discuss their joint interest in secession, instead focusing on the cost of living crisis, the Northern Ireland Protocol and the formation of a new Northern Ireland Executive. … [Read more...] about Nicola Sturgeon will work with anyone who supports the break-up of the UK, say Scottish Tories

IT WAS billed as The Journey Part 1. Rangers had plunged to the bottom of Scottish football after years of financial mismanagement. Ally McCoist was left with a threadbare squad to choose from as Rangers started again from scratch in the fourth tier of Scottish football. Nine years on, those dreaded trips to Peterhead and Elgin are now nothing more than distant memories. The days of being humiliated at Ibrox by minnows like Annan Athletic are long gone. Children’s commissioner backs smacking ban in England
The Children's Commissioner has said she would support a ban on smacking in England, following Scotland and Wales in changing the law. Dame Rachel de Souza told Times Radio: "I absolutely abhor, and I'm against, violence of any kind against children. "Because children are more vulnerable than adults, I think we do need to ensure that their rights are supported." The commissioner, whose role is independent, urged the Government to "watch" how Wales implemented its ban , which was enshrined in law last month. The Senedd's decision came after Holyrood led the way with a ban two years ago. It has brought renewed calls in England and Northern Ireland for ministers to follow suit. Parents in both nations have a "reasonable punishment" defence - and so long as the smack does not leave a red mark, or involve the use of an implement such as a slipper or belt. A Whitehall source admitted that smacking was "polarising" but indicated no such plan was on the table in England. … [Read more...] about Children’s commissioner backs smacking ban in England
