A car leasing company that has doubled its workforce in the last couple of years was last night named the 2019 Leicester Mercury Company of the Year. Total Motion won the top accolade during the annual Leicester Mercury Business Awards, beating two other finalists – successful footwear retailer WBYS and growing Ashby catering business Wilson Vale. The award topped off a great few months of trading for the business which last summer celebrated news that its fleet of managed and funded vehicles had passed the 25,000 mark. The Meridian Business Park-based business is now understood to be the biggest privately-owned leasing and fleet management company in the UK. Managing director Simon Hill, who founded Total Motion in 1999, said a combination of factors had enabled the company to win new business and exceed its targets in the highly competitive sector. This is the moment a charismatic award winner danced out of the audience and onto the stage to collect his prize - before dropping down DEAD seconds later. Vishnu Pandey had a heart attack on stage as he was collecting an award at a bash for travel agents. The 53-year-old was filmed wiggling and jiggling to the Bollywood music tune as he made his way up to the stage - as he was cheered on by the audience. Wearing a grey shirt and trousers, he continues to dance round the stage at the event at the Marriott Hotel in Agra, a city made famous for being the home to the Taj Mahal in India. But within a matter of seconds, the businessman from Mumbai, loses his balance and collapses on to the stage, leaving everyone stunned. Audience members quickly rushed to his aid and he was taken to hospital, but he was later declared dead. Police inspector Shailendra Singh said that Mr Pandey had died from a cardiac arrest. Royston Arts Society, the town’s branch of Rotary, Home-Start Royston & South Cambs, Speak Out Club, Royston’s photographic society, Royston & District Girlguiding, and Team Paula were all winners of the The Mayor’s Community Trust Fund awards. Team Paula was awarded £500 in memory of Royston woman Paula Noble, whose family are fundraising for research and treatment into sepsis after her sudden death aged 57. There were also awards in recognition for services to the town, most notably to Councillor Rita Turner, who died in December last year. ALBION’S international award winner Shane Duffy admits he has not got over his World Cup heartache. Duffy has been named Republic of Ireland player of the year for his performances in their World Cup qualifying campaign.
