Paul Killeen was crowned overall winner of the World Landscape Photographer competition , which had over 1,600 entries. His black and white photograph, titled Souls Tied, depicts two birds flying into the centre of the well-known site. He said he was "shocked and honoured" to have won for the image, taken on the morning of a friend's funeral. One of the judges described the image as "a brilliant winner". Another judge, Verity Milligan, said: "Just the woodland, the mist and the dancing birds. Magical. A special image and a worthy winner." Empty shelves in Tesco as Heinz pulls baked beans and other favourites due to pricing stand-off
EMPTY shelves have been spotted at Tesco today after Heinz has stopped supplying the supermarket with some of its key items. Baked beans , ketchup and tomato soup are among the family favourite cupboard staples missing along aisles. Heinz has stopped deliveries of key items to Tesco over a pricing spat, with the supermarket claiming it would not "pass on unjustifiable price increases" onto customers. Shoppers took to Twitter to complain about the lack of supplies of the fan favourite brand. "Hi @Tesco suggest you sort the Heinz problem, because remember there is always @asda ," one shopper said. Another tweeted: "Heinz beans are the only beans. Sort it out @Tesco ." A Timaru honey producer has won the supreme award at Apiculture New Zealand’s national honey competition for the second year in a row . Washdyke-based The Mānuka Collective, formerly known as 100% Pure New Zealand Honey, won 11 medals (seven gold and four silver) and the top prize at the Apiculture NZ conference held in Christchurch. The company’s operations manager Jarved Allan told The Timaru Herald the team was “really excited and over the moon” to win the award again. “It is a good opportunity to showcase to the world what we are doing here. We are always looking at improving and we will see what next year brings,’’ Allan said. Cash Converters manager wins £50,000 payout over ‘oppressive’ letter from boss
A Cash Converters manager has won a £50,000 payout after suffering severe anxiety and depression due to a ‘borderline oppressive’ letter from her boss. Gemma Cairns was horrified by the ‘harsh’ letter from Garry Lowes, which branded her demeanour ‘disrespectful, undermining, arrogant, privileged and wholly unacceptable’. The lengthy document contained a slew of criticisms and accused her of underperforming, failing to hit targets, and threatened her with the sack. It also refused her request to have Saturdays off for childcare reasons. After criticising Miss Cairns, Mr Lowes, who had just replaced Miss Cairns’ partner as operational manager, wrote: ‘My viewpoint is not a matter open to discussion or one to be disputed by you’. The letter caused Miss Cairns to suffer mental health issues and four days after receiving it, she began a period of sickness absence which lasted around 18 months. Last year, superstar Priyanka was crowned winner of the competition, with Rita Baga – real name Jean-François Guevremont – and Scarlett BoBo finishing in second place. Drag Race Belgique is a new French-speaking edition of the hugely successful Emmy-award-winning reality franchise and will feature Belgian drag queens serving some serious looks in a variety of challenges and runway categories. For roughly forty years, a concert titled “A Capitol Fourth” has been offered on the Capitol Grounds featuring the National Symphony Orchestra and assorted artists to celebrate Independence Day on July 4. So far just the first 60 names have been announced, including Nasa astronaut Peggy Whitson, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and England footballer Steph Houghton. The other 40 will be added during the season this October. The annual series - which shines a light at issues affecting women all over the world - is this year encouraging women to make a change. The line-up also includes performance poet Rupi Kaur, acid attack survivor Resham Khan and dancer and TV star Jin Xing.
