The Times reports that one of the party’s longest-serving MPs, Frank Field, resigned the whip on Thursday, saying Jeremy Corbyn had turned the party into “a force for anti-Semitism in British politics”. Mr Field, who has served as MP for Birkenhead for nearly 40 years, also said that Labour was increasingly “seen as a racist party”, the Daily Telegraph says. The i reports that deputy leader Tom Watson warned that more MPs could follow suit and quit, while the Metro says Mr Field told how he had raised concerns about bullying 18 months ago but that “no decisive action had been taken”. Why parents need to act before August 31 about child benefit
Parents of older children have been warned that they may need to act to ensure they still receive child benefit after their offspring turns 16. The HMRC has reminded parents that must inform them about their child’s plans so it isn’t automatically stopped on August 31. If your child is planning to stay in full-time education or unpaid training, you are still eligible for child benefit. A form, sent by HMRC, needs to arrive with them before the end of the month to ensure payments continue. Full time education includes A Levels, the International Baccalaureate, NVQs and other vocational qualifications up to level three. Those taking BTEC higher level courses, university degrees or courses funded by an employer do not qualify for child benefit.
