· March 6, 2021 ·

Parents all over the country are breathing a sigh of relief as their children prepare to go back to school after a difficult few months. The classroom is the best place for children to be, as face-to-face learning gives them a secure routine and normality, and helps with their socialisation, motivation and mental wellbeing. Schools and colleges are now fully reopening, welcoming back all pupils, and their health and wellbeing are a priority. Schools are well prepared, with protective measures in place, including bubbles, increased hygiene, staggered breaks and ventilation. Staff and pupils in secondary schools and colleges are also being advised to wear face coverings where social distancing cannot be maintained. Queen gifted pair of new ‘adorable’ corgi puppies years after last one died

· March 5, 2021 ·

The Queen has welcomed two new puppies to her household. For the first time in two years Her Majesty will have a couple of corgis at Windsor Castle. It is not known what the name, ages or sex of the pets are, but they seem to have come at a good time, with the monarch needing some company while Prince Philip is in hospital. “The Queen is delighted," a source told The Sun. "They have only been there a couple of weeks but are said to be adorable and made the castle their home. “Both are said to be bringing in a lot of noise and energy into the castle while Philip is in hospital.” It is thought that the dogs were a gift, filling a dog shaped whole in Elizabeth II's life. On her 18th birthday in 1944 she received a corgi called Susan who subsequently provided more than 30 descendants. The last of them, Whisper, died in 2018, leaving the Queen corgi-less for the first time in 74 years. Before her latest pair of pups, Her Majesty's only remaining dog was Candy the dorgi, … [Read more...] about Queen gifted pair of new ‘adorable’ corgi puppies years after last one died

New badger cull bids dash campaigners’ hopes of early end to killing programme

· March 4, 2021 ·

Thousands more badgers face being shot this autumn after a dozen new applications were made for cull licences. Natural England said it received “12 licence applications /expressions of interest in respect to 2021 badger control licensing”. Answering a request for information from a member of the public, it also revealed the controversial scheme could take place in 14 counties this year: Berkshire, Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Herefordshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, the West Midlands, Wiltshire and Worcestershire. If the licences are granted, it would be the first time culling had been authorised in Hampshire and Northamptonshire. More than 40 existing, four-year licences will continue in 2021 alongside the new licences, if they are granted. The revelation about new applications dashes the hopes of campaigners who hoped the announcement earlier this year(2021) of a Government plan to phase out culling could curb … [Read more...] about New badger cull bids dash campaigners’ hopes of early end to killing programme
