The parents of a boy killed in a dog attack 12 years ago are backing the Mirror’s campaign for change, saying they do not want other families to suffer. John-Paul Massey ’s mum and dad talked about the overwhelming grief they still feel after the four-year-old was mauled to death. The parents have spoken out after hearing that another child – three-year-old Daniel Twigg – was killed by a dog on Sunday. A three-year-old boy died from a dog attack in Rochdale yesterday lunchtime. The toddler was rushed to hospital from a property in Milnrow, Rochdale where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made at this stage and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement. Detective Superintendent Jamie Daniels, of GMP's Public Protection and Serious Crime Division, said: "This is a tragic, devastating incident and our thoughts are with the family at this horrendous time. "We are investigating the incident and previous incidents involving dogs at this address, Manchester Evening News reports . "While our enquiries to find out what happened will be thorough and are very much in their infancy, we suspect that this little boy has, sadly succumbed, to injuries received as a result of a dog attack. Both gulls, who are believed to still be alive, have been spotted in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, with bolts pierced through their heads. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) has put up a £1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible. RSPCA staff are trying to find the birds so they can treat them. The RSPCA's Inspector Geoff Edmond described the incidents as "appalling", while Peta spokeswoman Suzanne Barnard said they were "vicious". The attacks have also been condemned by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). Last month a gull was found with a silver bolt pierced through its head and now a second bird has been spotted with a black bolt lodged in its head. RSPCA staff are trying to find the birds, who are believed to still be alive, so they can treat them. The animal welfare organisation's Inspector Geoff Edmond described the incidents as "appalling". He said: "It is absolutely appalling and completely illegal to be shooting birds in this manner. 'Barbaric' "This is a concern as it looks like there are two seagulls flying around injured, and a concern that somebody has been shooting at them."
