A forward-thinking company has claimed its revenues have shot up dramatically - after giving employees Friday afternoons OFF. ISL Recruitment introduced an incentive three months ago which allows workers to chip off at 12pm if they have hit target that week. The Bristol-based business says its income has increased by an impressive 41 per cent since making the change - and everyone is much happier. Director Alan Furley said: "It was a bit of a shock how successful the incentive was. "I think it's worked so well because it's a clear short-term goal, which we can collaborate on achieving and was agreed across the office. "It's been set at the sweet spot between stretch and achievable, typically 150 per cent of budget."People know they can do something better on Tuesday and see the reward three days later, rather than just in their paycheck in three months. "The atmosphere in the office seems much more positive. "There is constant talk about what each other has going on, with greater … [Read more...] about Forward-thinking company claims revenues have rocketed after giving staff Friday afternoons off

Mum slammed after calling Santa ‘Father Christmas’ instead of gender neutral term
A mum has explained how she has been pulled into line for saying 'Father Christmas' - because the name isn't gender neutral. She says she was "shamed" on a Facebook group for not referring to him as Santa Claus. PlymouthLive report that the unnamed parent was ridiculed on social media after discussing a children's Christmas book. The worried woman says she has been left feeling 'on edge' since the comments. Now, hundreds of parents have logged on to share their views on the gender-neutral debate. She said: "I've just been shamed [on a Facebook group] for using the name 'Father Christmas' and told that 'Santa' is now seen as gender neutral. "I was only referring to the book below ['Father Christmas' by Raymond Briggs] but it's left me a little confused/on edge about what we are allowed to say. "I have a small child and don't really want to raise him saying 'Father Christmas' if it's hurtful to some." A recent survey was taken to see if the name should be modernised. According to more … [Read more...] about Mum slammed after calling Santa ‘Father Christmas’ instead of gender neutral term
Man and dog fall ill after moving into ‘rat-infested’ council estate home
A man says he and his dog both fell ill after the council moved him into a rat-infested property. Alan Franklin signed for the property in Lincoln on July 31. But he says that within days of moving in, he and his partner began to notice a strong smell of urine in their bedroom and noises coming from the attic, reports Lincolnshire Live. Alan said: "When we started to notice, we immediately contacted the council. The smell was really overwhelming. "A gentleman was sent out by the council to survey the property and told us that the attic was completely infested with rats. "I was shocked. We were told that the property had sat empty for 13 weeks, and in that time I was under the impression they were supposed to inspect the property and make sure it is habitable for the next tenant." Alan said that following the initial survey, he and his partner were left waiting for the council to return to bait and clear away the insulation. "I felt like I had to keep chasing and chasing," said Alan. … [Read more...] about Man and dog fall ill after moving into ‘rat-infested’ council estate home

Exploitation on the internet? The morality of watching death online
Is it disingenuous that the name of the Reddit community r/WatchPeopleDie uses the word die? Put it this way: the people in the videos and GIFs shared on Watch People Die do not merely die. Neither do they pass away (too polite), nor go to a better place (too peaceful). They are beheaded, incinerated, exploded, crushed, electrocuted, drowned, mangled, stoned and disemboweled. And their deaths, horrific and tragic as they are, can be watched by anyone with internet access, over and over again. The number of people who have watched these death videos without signing in to a Reddit account is unknowable. But the number of subscribers to Watch People Die – the number of Reddit users interested enough in seeing strangers get killed to have clicked SUBSCRIBE – exceeds 425,000. That’s nearly the population of Miami. By another way of comparison, Watch People Die is as big as the Reddit forums r/FinancialIndependence and r/Ass (NSFW, of course). So many of us would like to … [Read more...] about Exploitation on the internet? The morality of watching death online
