Maybe-billionaire President Donald Trump is not fond of mega-billionaire Amazon.com founder, Washington Post owner and aspiring space colonizer Jeff Bezos, and has repeatedly taken to his favorite bully pulpit to let us know it. See here and here and here.So I guess nobody should have been surprised by this: Why is the United States Post Office, which is losing many billions of dollars a year, while charging Amazon and others so little to deliver their packages, making Amazon richer and the Post Office dumber and poorer? Should be charging MUCH MORE!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 29, 2017 And, more recently, this. And this. The self-appointed fact-checkers in the press were quick to note that the president's claim of Amazon taking advantage of the USPS was based on some fairly questionable sources. But it must be said that the USPS's official response is a bit thin as well: The chief … [Read more...] about Trump Versus the Post Office: They May Both Be Right
So President Donald Trump wants to reform the U.S. Postal Service. Shall we welcome him to the club?QuickTake Q&A: Amazon and the Post OfficeLet’s put aside for a moment the real (and futile) purpose of Thursday’s executive order calling for postal reforms: he wants to put the hurt on one of the USPS’s biggest customers, Amazon.com Inc., whose chief executive, Jeff Bezos, owns the Washington Post. The post office does indeed need to be reformed. And do you know who the leading voices for reform are? The people who run the place. If a Trump-appointed task force conducts a serious investigation into postal practices, they’ll find plenty of problems, virtually none of them the fault of the post office itself.Let’s go back in time, to 1971. That year, the department that had long been known as the Post Office became the Postal Service, an independent agency that was expected to be financially self-sufficient—while continuing to provide mail service to … [Read more...] about Trump’s Right: The Post Office Needs Reform
The Post Office has launched a new mortgage they believe will help modern millennial buyers. The family link mortgage will give a first time buyer a 90% loan to value (LTV) mortgage, and then raise the other 10% as a mortgage secured against close relatives member’s home. For the first five years buyers make two separate repayments – one towards the assistor’s mortgage (which is interest free) and one towards their own mortgage. Post Office's representative example 1. If the property the buyers wants is worth £200,000 2. A mortgage of £20,000 is taken against the assistor's property. This becomes the 10% deposit 3. The Post Office then lends £180,000 to cover the remaining value of the new home 4. The buyer will then have to pay £20,000 back at 0% interest rate within the first 5 years + the remaining £180,000 plus interest payable over a term agreed with the buyer.
