The Dodgers' Max Muncy hit a walkoff homerun in the 18th inning, giving the Dodgers a 3-2 victory over the Red Sox to end the longest World Series game in history. During the bottom of the 15th, the game surpassed San Francisco's 6-hour, 23-minute win over Washington that went 18 innings during the 2014 NL Division Series. Previously, no World Series matchup had ever gone past the 14th. The Dodgers gained a game on the Red Sox, bringing the series to 2-1. The Red Sox nearly got a run in the 15th against Kenta Maeda, the Dodgers' sixth reliever. Boston put its first two batters on base, but Maeda made a gutsy forceout throw to get Eduardo Nunez at third before striking out Sandy Leon and Mookie Betts, who didn't like the called third strike. Max Muncy came ever so close to ending it in the bottom half, but his long drive down the right-field line hooked foul a few feet in front of the pole. Both teams scored bizarre runs in the 13th that kept the game going. The Red Sox … [Read more...] about Los Angeles Dodgers win 3-2 in the 18th, ending the longest World Series game in history
Astros world series 2005
Scott Boeck USA TODAY Published 2:41 AM EDT Oct 27, 2018 World Series Game 3 between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers has reached epic proportions. The Red Sox and Dodgers, tied at 2-2, have entered the 15th inning and officially became the longest in World Series history - in time and frames. The two franchises have been down this path before. The last time they met in a World Series, in 1916, the Brooklyn Robins and Red Sox went 14 innings and Babe Ruth pitched a complete game for a 2-1 victory. The longest game in World Series history, in terms of innings, before Friday's marathon? Fourteen innings. It has been done three times. 1916, Game 2: Brooklyn Robins beat the Red Sox, 2-1. 2005, Game 3: Chicago White Sox beat the Houston Astros, 7-5. 2015, Game 1: Kansas City Royals beat the New York Mets, 5-4. The longest game in World Series history, by time? 2005, Game 3: White … [Read more...] about World Series: Game 3 between Red Sox, Dodgers longest in history
Josh Peter USA TODAY Published 9:23 PM EDT Oct 1, 2018 LOS ANGELES — With a 5-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday, the Los Angeles Dodgers became only the third franchise in baseball history to win a division title six consecutive years. Yawn. OK, props to the Dodgers for capturing the National League West Division and joining the New York Yankees (1998-2006) and the Atlanta Braves (1995-2005) as the only franchises to win at least six consecutive division titles. But with the Dodgers set to play the Atlanta Braves in a best-of-five divisional playoffs series starting Thursday, it’s World Series or bust. The Dodgers haven’t won one since Kirk Gibson limped around the bases in 1988 – and they may finally sneak their way to a title this year. It's doubtful anyone is more confident than Yasiel Puig, the Dodgers’ boisterous, bat-flipping right fielder. AS Liverpool are preparing for what they hope will be a successful finish to their 2017-18 campaign - ending, perhaps, in memorable glory in Ukraine - over in the United States, principal owner John W Henry's Major League Baseball franchise, the Boston Red Sox, have just embarked on their 2018 season. And given the amount of money the ballclub have spent - and are set to spend - they mean business. Big business. For the first time since Henry and his financial partners took control of the franchise a little over 16 years ago in February, 2002, the Red Sox are sitting top of the 30-team MLB payroll on the season's Opening Day. In fact, this marks the first time that the ballclub have been the highest spender in the sport since at least 1990, the earliest year for which figures compiled by MLB are readily available. According to numbers obtained by the Associated Press, Boston's payroll as of Thursday's Opening Day was an eye-watering $223m (£159m). That figure is actually higher … [Read more...] about How FSG have shed their ‘moneyball’ tag in pursuit of titles…
