Sharon Dale reports on the rise of Bedale.Prices of detached houses in Bedale and its surrounding villages soared by 21.1 per cent last year, which was far higher than any other part of North Yorkshire, according to a newly-released house price index. Property buying agency The Search Partnership has analysed the average price paid per square foot recorded by the Land Registry throughout six key areas of North Yorkshire and says that values in the market town have boomed.Toby Milbank, a director of The Search Partnership, says: “It’s the second year in a row that the Bedale area has seen the highest levels of growth. Olympian Helen Richardson-Walsh unveiled a new £725,000 astro turf at a High Wycombe school. The gold medallist was the guest of honour at Wycombe High School (WHS), where she helped to officially open the school’s new all-weather pitch, which staff and current and former students spent more than a year fundraising for. The WHS sport-a-thon, which involved 40 students and staff who ran, rowed, cycled, swam, walked and hiked 1,684 miles over three months, raised more than £3,800, while a ‘sponsor a square’ campaign brought in almost £20,000 thanks to 18 tutor groups representing 452 students and staff, local businesses, former students, and parents. A gala dinner and sports awards evening hosted by Gabby Logan raised £4,000, while the school’s ‘Pedal 4 a Pitch’ appeal raised £2,021 in sponsorship with 56 students, staff and parents cycling 500 miles over seven hours in High Wycombe’s Eden Shopping Centre. Foreign investors bought more than half of all properties for sale in London’s most exclusive areas in the second half of last year, according to new research. The number of overseas investors snapping up homes in high-end parts of central London like Belgravia and Kensington have hit a five-year high, with a jump in Middle East investors, research by estate agents Hamptons showed. It comes as the asking prices of homes in such spots are selling at the biggest discounts in more than a decade, the Financial Times reported. Research by LonRes shows prices per square foot in such areas have dropped by five per cent since 2014, when they peaked, while the most expensive locations have seen prices drop 11 per cent. Meanwhile across the rest of the capital, about 30 per cent of homes sold were to foreign buyers. Britain’s most decorated female Olympian is set to visit a south Bucks school to deliver a fitness session with 12 aspiring sportspeople in a bid to help the school with its fundraising efforts for a new astro turf. Dame Katherine Grainger will run an elite fitness session at Beaconsfield High School later this year, followed by a question and answer session with lucky students. Ten spaces will be available to bid on in the school’s Burns Night auction, which is running online until Saturday. Another two spaces will be given to students selected by the head of PE, Kat McGonigle. The money raised from the auction will go towards funding a new astro turf to replace the current ageing one, which is expected to cost around £100,000, with Dame Katherine donating her time for free.
