Under-25s would be given free bus travel under Labour plans announced by Jeremy Corbyn today. The party said it would scrap fares for 13 million young people to help them save money and encourage them to use public transport. The policy could save each young person up to £1,000 a year, Labour said, and will be funded through revenue raised by Vehicle Excise Duty. Free travel would only be offered in areas where councils agree to either take bus services under public ownership or introduce a franchising model similar to that which already exists in London. Tornadoes caused disruption to flights in Florida as severe weather passed through the state. Two twisters were seen in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday afternoon, local media reported. Greg Meyer, a spokesman for the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport told 10 News that one tornado touched down in the site’s north-western area at about 4.30pm. It damaged a private jet, shut down a runway and was strong enough to blow luggage trolleys around, he said. 10 News said several dozen flights were affected. It comes after days of inclement weather in a number of states.
