One pupil dubbed the test "almost impossible" adding he and others were left feeling "desperate". Elgan from Denbigh, a year 12 pupil at Ysgol Glan Clwyd, in St Asaph, Denbighshire, was shocked by the paper. The WJEC exam board said the exam "did not rely on knowledge and understanding of any topics removed from assessment in 2022". The test was among the first summer exams sat by pupils since before the pandemic. The 17-year-old said: "There were some questions I was comfortable with but the majority were very difficult and unfair. "We were very disheartened after the exam. We didn't know how other schools had fared and if it was just our school at first. Stand collapses in Galle to put day two of Australia v Sri Lanka test in doubt
The roof on a makeshift grandstand at Galle International Stadium has collapsed amid strong winds and heavy rain which put day two of the first test between Australia and Sri Lanka in doubt. Rain began falling around 90 minutes before the scheduled start of play on Thursday, with strong gusts blowing in off the coastline. A heavy wind warning has since been issued for the Galle region, with the area expecting gusts in excess of 60km/h later in the day. Australia's team considered returning to their hotel but decided to stay at the ground with some hope play could resume later in the afternoon. Ground staff managed to keep the entire ground covered as they battled to put tyres over large tarpaulin covers to keep them on the grass. But the bigger challenge could be outside the boundary. Metal sheets on the temporary eastern stand began blowing off around an hour before play, before the entire roof buckled and collapsed. The metal had only been secured by rope in the … [Read more...] about Stand collapses in Galle to put day two of Australia v Sri Lanka test in doubt

UK trade deal with US certain if Trump wins election, says commerce chief
UK-US trade talks are progressing well and no “unsurmountable” issues have emerged, US commerce secretary Wilbur Ross has told The Telegraph, as he talked up hopes of reaching a deal in the new year if Donald Trump wins re-election. In an interview, Mr Ross said a deal was unlikely to be secured this year, meaning it will not come before next month's US presidential election, but said he had “very little doubt” that both sides would ultimately reach an agreement. Mr Ross said that agricultural standards remained one of the key points of difference between both sides after four rounds of talks, but insisted there were no issues that had caused either negotiating team to declare “I’m putting down my pencil”. But Mr Ross, a Republican, also warned that talks would inevitably be delayed if Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential nominee taking on Mr Trump, wins the election on November 3 and takes office at the inauguration on January 20. Mr Ross said Mr Biden would have to appoint … [Read more...] about UK trade deal with US certain if Trump wins election, says commerce chief

Find Peter Chadwick: Manhunt continues for fugitive multimillionaire years after being charged with wife’s murder
Produced by Chuck Stevenson and Gayane Keshishyan Mendez A murder that stunned an upscale California neighborhood more than six years ago is now the focus of an international manhunt — and authorities are asking the public for help. "We had no idea this was going to become the logistical monster that it has," U.S. Marshal Craig McCluskey tells "48 Hours." Peter Chadwick and his wife, Q.C. Chadwick, seemed to have the perfect life. College sweethearts, they were married for 21 years and had three sons. They lived in a gated community in Newport Beach, California. That dream life collapsed one day in 2012 when neither of the Chadwicks turned up to pick up their sons from the bus stop. Investigators had little idea that day the case would lead to an international manhunt. The next morning, authorities got a 911 call in San Diego, the next county over. It was Peter Chadwick, claiming a house painter named Juan murdered Q.C. and forced him to put her body in his SUV and drive down … [Read more...] about Find Peter Chadwick: Manhunt continues for fugitive multimillionaire years after being charged with wife’s murder
NSA report indicates Russian cyberattack against U.S. voting software vendor last August
Russian government hackers carried out a cyberattack against one U.S. voting software vendor last August and launched a spear-phishing attack targeting local U.S. organizations days before the 2016 U.S. election, according to a highly classified report within the National Security Agency. CBS News confirmed the authenticity of the report Monday after the 5-page document was published by The Intercept. Sections of the report have been redacted by U.S. intelligence, CBS News' Jeff Pegues reports, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence has declined to comment on it. DOJ charges contractor with leaking classified material to news outlet One of the four authors who wrote The Intercept's story about the NSA report tweeted that nothing in the report indicated that "the actual voting machines or vote tabulations were compromised" in November's election. Former DNI James Clapper, who left his post before President Trump's inauguration, has repeatedly said that … [Read more...] about NSA report indicates Russian cyberattack against U.S. voting software vendor last August

Speaking from the NATO conference in Madrid, the prime minister told broadcasters that "we need to invest for the long-term in vital capabilities like future combat air, whilst simultaneously adapting to a more dangerous and more competitive world".
