The Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade has ushered in a new era of funding on both sides of the abortion debate. With the legality of abortion now up to individual states to determine — an issue long argued over by legislators and philanthropists, when it was largely theoretical because only the Supreme Court could change it — suddenly has real-world ramifications for people across the country. And donors on both sides will now be expected to put money behind their words. "I think we will see funding that's going to be a lot less performative and a lot more realistic," said Leslie Lenkowsky, a professor emeritus in public affairs and philanthropic studies at Indiana University. Those kind of gifts are already starting to arrive. Donations are pouring in to nonprofit groups in what experts call an example of "rage giving." Yet few believe the additional funding for their causes will be enough to address the increased demand for help either for women to obtain abortions … [Read more...] about End of Roe ushers in new era of funding on both sides of abortion debate

Employee Fired After He Skipped Work In ‘Mourning’ Over End Of Roe v. Wade | The Daily Wire
A former production coordinator at Universal Music Enterprises was fired after skipping on job responsibilities to bemoan the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade . In a viral LinkedIn post , Michael Lopez — who introduced himself as a “queer brown person” — said that he was “fired during Pride month for speaking up in defense of abortion rights.” Lopez explained that he was responsible every Friday for processing a report and sending his work to 275 people — a duty he neglected on the Friday that the Supreme Court announced its decision. “I didn’t do them today,” he said in an email that appeared to be in response to a superior. “I’m in mourning due to the attack on people with uteruses in the US. Federally guaranteed access to abortion is gone.” He then said that his employer “must stop donating to anti-abortion, anti-queer and anti-trans politicians” such as Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), and Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN), or else “expect more … [Read more...] about Employee Fired After He Skipped Work In ‘Mourning’ Over End Of Roe v. Joao Moutinho ends speculation over transfer future to sign one-year deal at Wolves as 36-year-old continues career
JOAO MOUTINHO has signed a new one-year Wolves contract after thrashing out a deal with the club over the weekend. It means the 36-year-old will be in his usual place as he heads into a fifth season at Molineux. The veteran Portuguese international looked set to move to the Continent after failing to agree a new deal at the end of last season. Jose Mourinho' s Roma and Porto in his homeland were linked with the midfielder. However the Wolves' fans favourite, who cost a bargain £5million from Monaco in 2018, has decided to stay as he edges closer to his 200th appearance for the Old Gold, who he has made 176 appearances for. Wolves' technical director Scott Sellars said: “In Joao’s time at the club, he’s been vital, bringing real experience and quality to the group, so to get him re-signed is a massive boost for us all. Coronavirus: Italians find new ways to eat out
By Dany Mitzman Published 22 October 2020 Share close Share page Copy link About sharing It's eight o'clock inside a traditional restaurant in Via de' Coltelli in central Bologna. Customers arrive punctually to be seated at one of the six available tables. Faced with the resurgence of Covid-19 in Italy, this Bolognese osteria is doing something different. The ebb of the first wave and summer al fresco dining saw an encouraging return to business for many Italian eateries and bars; but as the cold sets in, this second wave in is forcing restaurateurs to find new ways to stay afloat. New national restrictions mean restaurants and bars have to close by midnight until 13 November and can seat a maximum of six people per table. Set airlines free to compete and end the travel chaos
Flights are constantly being cancelled, often at the last minute . Baggage is left lying around for days because there is no one to load it onto the carousels. And there are massive queues at airports as security staff find it impossible to process everyone crowding into the departure zone on time. Flying has never been a lot of fun, and ever since the invention of the budget airline it has been turned into its own special form of hell. But it has never been quite as bad as it is right now. One of the world's biggest industries looks close to meltdown — and the really busy summer season hasn't even started yet. It is inevitably going to get much, much worse over the next couple of months. Plenty of people will argue that governments need to intervene to sort out the mess. We will inevitably hear calls for more regulation, nationalisation, and a return to state control. But in fact what is needed is a wave of deregulation and innovation. From selling off landing slots, to easier … [Read more...] about Set airlines free to compete and end the travel chaos
Ending special Covid leave for NHS staff completely unacceptable, says BMA
Doctors have added their voices to criticism of a decision to cut enhanced sick pay and special leave for NHS workers in England who are off work with Covid-19. The move, which comes into effect from Monday, has already been attacked by nurses, especially as the number of cases and hospital admissions has been increasing. The Royal College of Nursing said the Department of Health and Social Care wants changes to the way Covid-related sickness absence and self-isolation will be managed for NHS staff in England. From July 7, staff terms and conditions in coronavirus workforce guidance will be withdrawn, meaning the immediate end to sick pay for new episodes of Covid-19 sickness, according to the RCN, and access to special leave for the purposes of self-isolation will also be withdrawn. For easy summer makeup, sheer and balmy textures are the way to go – here are our top buys
Summer is around the corner and with the hot weather comes the reality of a sweatier, oilier face. So our makeup tends to get lighter in consistency, with foundations swapped out for skin tints and heavy powders ditched. Makeup in sheer or balmy textures becomes a blessing. While it’s not the most mask transfer-proof finish, a sheer texture is quick and easy to top up. Usually only a quick blend with the pad of a finger (over a brush and sponge) is all you need. Dominic Skinner, global senior artist at MAC Cosmetics tells Metro.co.uk these textures also allow you to experiment with playful colours in a failsafe way. Using blusher as an example, he says: ‘Bold looks always find a way to filter to the high street. ‘So a bold, yet sheer, pop of blush has its origins in fashion week but made more wearable.’ So as well as being quicker to apply and less heavy on the skin, you can afford to go brighter or more statement than you normally would, in the knowledge … [Read more...] about For easy summer makeup, sheer and balmy textures are the way to go – here are our top buys
The Atlantic Calls For Ending Nobel Peace Prize After Trump Nominated For The Award | The Daily Wire
The Atlantic, a leftist magazine that recently published a widely disputed story claiming that President Donald Trump mocked dead American soldiers, wrote on Friday that the Nobel Peace Prize should be abolished after Trump was nominated to win the award. Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a member of the Norwegian Parliament, nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize earlier this week after the administration helped facilitate a peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). “For his merit, I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees,” Tybring-Gjedde, who also serves as chairman of the Norwegian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, told Fox News. “I’m not a big Trump supporter. The committee should look at the facts and judge him on the facts – not on the way he behaves sometimes. The people who have received the Peace Prize in recent years have done much less than Donald Trump. For example, Barack Obama … [Read more...] about The Atlantic Calls For Ending Nobel Peace Prize After Trump Nominated For The Award | The Daily Wire
