Meghan Markle’s dad called the British royal family a cult like “Scientologists or Stepford family”
Despite having vowed to stop discussing the royal family, Meghan Markle's father likened his daughter's in-laws to a cult during an interview with The Sun newspaper. "They are either like Scientologists or the Stepford family," Thomas Markle said. "If they hear anybody say anything they just lock the doors. They need to speak up!" Calling the royal family "cult-like," Thomas Markle suggested he still hasn't been able to reach the Duchess of Sussex because her new family operated like the Church of Scientology. "They are secretive," he said. "They close the door, pull the shades down and put their fingers in their ears so they don't have to hear." He added: "Maybe they have a secret handshake too! You cannot ask a question of them—as they won't answer." Samantha Grant claims she’s not “cashing in” on sister Meghan Markle’s fame
Despite recently charging a radio station for an interview, Meghan Markle's half-sister Samantha Grant claimed she isn't "cashing in" on her younger sibling's newfound royal status and fame. Grant appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain on Monday where she discussed her pay-for interviews and the ongoing drama surrounding her sister and their father, Thomas Markle. "I worked in media most of my life and in broadcasting, so because my sister is suddenly royal isn't grounds for me to stop doing all of that," Grant said. "Let's face it—we all have to survive. Money makes the world go round, so if you want to call that cashing in, that's fine. But I think no one in media would refuse a paycheck for talking about the royal[s] and, as a family, we're not subject to royal protocol. Why would I stop living because we have a family issue going on?" She added: "No one has a copyright on our life experiences and so, I think the public forgets that within the family, we're each individuals … [Read more...] about Samantha Grant claims she’s not “cashing in” on sister Meghan Markle’s fame

Boris Johnson facing Cabinet backlash over Chris Pincher sex pest allegations
Boris Johnson is facing a Cabinet backlash over his handling of allegations against Chris Pincher, amid anger among ministers at being asked to defend the affair. Speaking to The Telegraph on Sunday night, sources close to three Cabinet ministers criticised the Prime Minister’s decision to appoint Mr Pincher to the role of deputy chief whip and expressed dismay at having to publicly answer questions about what Mr Johnson knew about claims of sexual impropriety. Comparing the situation to the sleaze scandals that dogged the latter years of the Major government, one said: “It just increases the feeling that we are in late John Major-era territory even more – when you are trying to appease people, you are more inclined to turn blind eye to bad behaviour.” They added that Mr Johnson was in the “completely invidious position” of trying to placate his allies because he did not want to “lose their support”. The source added that: “My understanding from ministers is there is a … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson facing Cabinet backlash over Chris Pincher sex pest allegations
Friends’ lack of diversity ’embarrassed’ its co-creator. So she made a $6.4m decision
Marta Kauffman remembers being bothered: Why were so many people picking on Friends? Created by Kauffman and David Crane, the series about a group of close friends was an instant smash when it premiered in 1994, and thanks to syndication and streaming, it has remained one of TV's most popular shows since it left the air in 2004 after 10 seasons. Despite its success, though, the comedy was repeatedly criticised for its lack of diversity, with numerous observers wondering how the characters existed in a predominantly white environment even though the series was set in New York City. Kauffman felt Friends was being unfairly singled out, claiming there was too much attention on the near-absence of black people and other people of colour: "It was difficult and frustrating." But now, Kauffman says, she gets it.
