May 19, 2022 by www.telegraph.co.uk

At least one person was injured at a school in northern Germany on Thursday after a man reportedly carrying a pistol and crossbow opened fire at a school in Bremerhaven. Police said they had arrested the suspected gunman. The incident happened at the Lloyd Gymnasium in the centre of Bremerhaven. "The armed person has been arrested and is in police custody," police said in a statement. The injured person was not a pupil, police said, and has been taken to hospital. "Students are in their classrooms with their teachers. The police have the situation on the ground under control," the statement added. School shootings are relatively rare in Germany, a country with some of the strictest gun laws in Europe. But a recent spate has rattled the population. Germany's online newspaper Nord24 said the person injured on Thursday was a woman who worked at the school. Officers raced to the scene after a pupil called the police upon hearing gunfire, according to local media. … [Read more...] about Crossbow and pistol-yielding suspect detained following German school shooting

In a series of 23 tweets, Roderick, who has since deleted his Twitter account, explains how wanted his daughter to learn how to open the can of baked beans herself, writing: “a teaching moment just dropped in my lap!" According to screenshots of his tweets shared on Twitter, he goes on to explain how his daughter couldn’t figure out how the can opener worked - and, hoping that she would figure it out on her own, Roderick refused to tell her. Missed signals in 4 mass shootings: What went wrong?

May 20, 2022 by abcnews.go.com

When Payton Gendron, the 18-year-old white man charged in connection with the murders of 10 Black people at a supermarket in Buffalo , New York, was a senior in high school, he allegedly wrote a paper saying that he wanted to commit murder-suicide, according to authorities. That prompted the assistant principal of Gendron's high school to call New York State Police and report Gendron, according to law enforcement. After a day-and-a-half mental health evaluation a year ago, Gendron was released and his behavior wasn't flagged to authorities before he allegedly carried out the mass shooting last Saturday. Gendron has pleaded not guilty. Law enforcement sources tell ABC News how they handle mental health evaluations and police investigations regarding disturbed people and their access to firearms is very much a work in progress. They point to how easily Gendron allegedly sidestepped an investigation to see if he was dangerous following the incident at his high school. … [Read more...] about Missed signals in 4 mass shootings: What went wrong?
