Family slammed for bullying pregnant woman over “risk” baby has red hair

May 17, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

A heavily pregnant woman has vented her frustration at feeling "bullied" by family members over the fact her baby may have red hair. Red might be the rarest human hair color in the world, but redheads nevertheless account for a significant proportion of the population. According to online geography resource website WorldAtlas, redheads represent around 2 to 6 percent of the U.S. population, or somewhere between 6 and 18 million people. Despite this, a certain stigma persists among the redheaded population , not least when it comes to dating . A 2012 study saw a group of men and women put on different colored wigs in a dating setting to see who would be approached the most. Redheads suffered the most rejection with just 13.8 percent of men wearing the red wigs being asked to dance, compared with 35 percent of the men donning black locks. It wasn't just restricted to men either. The women wearing red wigs found they were approached by just 29 men, which was … [Read more...] about Family slammed for bullying pregnant woman over “risk” baby has red hair

2022 Cannes Film Festival: Glamour in times of war

January 17, 2022 by www.dw.com

To provide glamour and still be political: that has always been the claim of the most important European film festival in Cannes . But in times of war in Europe, that combination offers the potential for conflict. Artistic director Thierry Fremaux announced early on that he did not want to receive any official Russian delegations at the festival, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. However, Fremaux had reserved the right to include Russian filmmakers in the program. Russian filmmaker Kirill Serebrennikov has been invited to the competition with his film "Tchaikovsky's Wife." He had not received any Russian state funding, Fremaux argued. Serebrennikov's latest is 'Tchaikovsky's Wife' starring Alyona Mikhailova This is the third time Serebrennikov has been at Cannes. The Russian, who was under house arrest in his native country for two years, now lives in Germany. The biographical film recounts an episode from the life of the world-famous Russian composer, … [Read more...] about 2022 Cannes Film Festival: Glamour in times of war

Bedfordshire PCC Festus Akinbusoye backs continuation of stop-and-search

May 26, 2021 by www.bbc.co.uk

Published 26 May 2021 Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Britain's first black police and crime commissioner has said removing stop-and-search powers would mean "a field day for criminals". Conservative Festus Akinbusoye was elected to the Bedfordshire role earlier this month . Human rights groups say the number of people belonging to ethnic minorities stopped and searched by police is "disproportionate". But Mr Akinbusoye said: "I am pro stop-and-search." "I was a special constable and I stopped people, black and white, and I found things," he said. The police and crime commissioner (PCC) said he had been stopped and searched six times by police in the past. He said it was "disturbing" that the experience of policing for ethnic minorities could be "the opposite" of what white people go through. But he said he felt the powers were necessary because he knew … [Read more...] about Bedfordshire PCC Festus Akinbusoye backs continuation of stop-and-search

Tinder adds STD testing locator to its website—good luck finding it

January 21, 2016 by www.newsweek.com

The dating app Tinder (or hookup app, depending on whom you ask ) has added an HIV and sexually transmitted disease testing locator on its website—but good luck finding it. While Tinder's move is laudable—as some STD rates in the United States hit an all-time high —the finished product is disappointing, despite considerable hoopla from Tinder, Healthvana and the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF). First, the STD locator on Tinder is just a link that takes anyone interested to health startup Healthvana's website. And to get to the link, you need to click on a tiny gray "health safety" button on the bottom right on the Tinder home page, then scroll down to the end of the health safety page to the link. On the mobile app, where Tinder really happens, you needs to click on the settings button on the top left, then click "help & support," transfer over to a Web browser, click on "health safety" and then scroll down to the STD locator link. Tinder's decision to adopt an STD … [Read more...] about Tinder adds STD testing locator to its website—good luck finding it

Imran Khan asks SC to hear PM Shehbaz’s corruption cases

May 17, 2022 by www.thenews.com.pk

KOHAT: After hailing Supremer Court's decision on Article 63(A), PTI Chairman Imran Khan Tuesday urged the apex court to hear the alleged corruption cases against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his family. In a major development, the SC today ruled that the votes of dissident members of the Parliament (MPs), cast against their parliamentary party's directives, cannot be counted. The five-member larger bench announced a split decision. The majority of judges, including Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, refused to allow parliamentarians from voting against the party directives under the four instances mentioned in Article 63(A) of the Constitution. Although no PTI member voted for Shehbaz during the prime minister's election, several party members had voted for Hamza Shahbaz in the Punjab chief minister election — leaving his fate hanging in the balance. In his address during the Kohat jalsa, the PTI chairman praised the Supreme Court's decision and said the apex court with the … [Read more...] about Imran Khan asks SC to hear PM Shehbaz’s corruption cases
