In a debate in Westminster Hall in Parliament on Wednesday afternoon, South Northamptonshire MP Andrea Leadsom called for the Government to urgently commit to a full review of the business case for HS2 before the Notice to Proceed is granted later this year. Andrea Leadsom has resigned from government, announcing she was standing down as Leader of the House of Commons with a "heavy heart". In a lengthy resignation letter, Mrs Leadsom slammed Mrs May's recent concessions on Brexit including the facilitation of a second referendum. Laying out her four main reasons for quitting, Mrs Leadsom said she no longer agrees with the government's approach to delivering the result of the Brexit referendum. Her resignation, which comes amid a backlash against Theresa May's Brexit plan from Conservative MPs, is the 36th by a minister under Mrs May, 21 of whom have been over Brexit. A petition signed by nearly 3,500 supporters of a bypass for Farthinghoe was gladly accepted by South Northants MP Andrea Leadsom today (Friday, April 26). Villagers collected numerous signatures at Tesco supermarkets in Brackley and Banbury as well as many more online to show the strong support for their campaign.Mrs Leadsom will now use the petition in her quest to get the new road signed off as she lobbies the Department of Transport and Highways England.Pip Clayton, who has been leading the village’s campaign, said the response has been fantastic and thanked everyone who has helped.“We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved,” she added.The campaigners believe this is the closest Farthinghoe has been to securing a bypass for the A422, an ongoing project for decades.Mrs Leadsom called on villagers to set up a petition in February so she was delighted to see it come to fruition with such success.“It’s fantastic, there’s only around 300 … [Read more...] about Farthinghoe bypass petition signed by 3,500 handed to Andrea Leadsom MP
