A bride-to-be whose "healthy" fiancee died aged 37 of Covid-19 has warned people not to be complacent as the virus "doesn't discriminate". Lauren Brett said she has been "left to pick up the pieces from my once incredibly happy life" since her partner Luke Dann died on January 21. She described how she had first contracted the virus in December and five days after showing symptoms, Luke started coughing. "I'll get over it," he told her. But the 3D modeller, animator and motion graphics artist, started having breathing difficulties soon after and was taken to hospital for treatment. He spent two weeks in intensive care before he died. Lauren told Grimsby Live: "I want to make people aware that Covid doesn't discriminate. One of Britain's wealthiest businessmen is assembling a £300m takeover bid for Homebase, the DIY chain revived from the brink of collapse just three years ago. Sky News has learnt that Hugh Osmond, who is spearheading a legal challenge to the government's coronavirus restrictions on the hospitality sector, is among a number of parties vying to buy the retailer. City sources said this weekend that the entrepreneur's investment vehicle, Osmond Capital, had emerged as a serious bidder for Homebase, which is owned by Hilco Capital. Mr Osmond is not thought to be in exclusive talks to buy the chain, although the identity of other bidders was unclear this weekend. Hilco is also said to have weighed a stock market flotation of the business. Gun salutes have begun across the country in tribute to Prince Philip as Brits mourn the Duke's death. The 41 salutes, one each minute, will be heard across the country in cities including London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast. Salutes will also be fired in Gibraltar and from Royal Navy warships, the Ministry of Defence said. Gun salutes are mark significant national events, including the Queen ’s Coronation, the death of Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill, since as early as at least the 18th century. The Scottish Parliament is to be recalled for only the sixth time in its history to show respect to the Duke of Edinburgh. The salutes will be broadcast online and on television. He was by her side, or a couple of respectful steps behind, during thousands of engagements over seven decades. Even when physically apart, this was a couple deeply in love who were always emotionally together. Family members to flag wavers knew the Queen and Prince Philip ’s bond was unique and unwavering.
