Archaeology and Bible experts work together to explain the past
The biblical story of the Passion of Christ tells of how Jesus of Nazareth was condemned to death and nailed to the cross at the orders of Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea. Much of the story is based on accounts in the Bible's New Testament and not all of it is historically verified. Did Jesus Christ even exist? Little is known about those ancient days from a purely historical perspective. Even the method of Christ's execution — crucifixion — is hardly documented at all as a widespread punishment in antiquity. Gunnar Samuelson, a historian at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, studied all the Greek, Latin and Hebrew/Aramaic sources he could find to learn more about crucifixion. The research into his doctoral thesis in 2010 took him all the way back into antiquity — from Greek philosopher Homer into the 1st century CE. But Samuelson found that there was hardly any recorded evidence of crucifixion as a common method of execution from that period. But … [Read more...] about Archaeology and Bible experts work together to explain the past
Ukraine warns it could be ‘provoked’ as Russian troops loom on border amid fears of all-out war
UKRAINE has warned it could be "provoked" into action as tens of thousands of "battle ready" Russian troops close in on its border. The West also now fears Vladimir Putin’s military squeeze on his neighbour may spark an all-out war, which could drag Nato into the conflict. Russian tanks, missile trucks and long-range guns have been filmed heading to Crimea and the border of the disputed Ukrainian region of Donbass. There were also reports Putin's so-called robot army could soon be deployed to the flashpoint border. Kiev estimates there are now 85,000 Russian troops between six and 25 miles from its frontier and in Crimea. The worrying news comes Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said the UK and the US were "firmly opposed" to Russia's campaign to destabilise the region. Ukraine’s government, led by President Volodymyr Zelensky, has accused Moscow of planning to invade Donbass, which has been occupied by Russian-backed separatists since 2014. And Zelensky has … [Read more...] about Ukraine warns it could be ‘provoked’ as Russian troops loom on border amid fears of all-out war
Putin’s robot army to be deployed at Ukraine border with 85,000 troops ‘ready for conflict’ as war tensions mount
VLADIMIR Putin’s robot army will be deployed at Ukraine’s border with 85,000 troops “ready for conflict” as war tensions mount. The new unmanned firepower was inspected by Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu this week, at the 766th Production and Technological Enterprise in Nakhabino near Moscow. “The first unit with strike robots will be set up in the Russian Armed Forces to operate five Uran-9 robotic systems or 20 combat vehicles," announced the defence ministry. Troops would undergo training “to operate Uran-9 robotic vehicles in special military units”, it was announced. A video shows the unmanned tank in action. It is armed with a 30mm automatic gun, Ataka anti-tank missiles and Shmel flamethrowers. The latest news of the new technology comes as Putin’s troops boast they are primed for battle. A video leaked earlier today captioned ‘Ready for conflict’ appears to show armoured vehicles moving through the mud and into position near the flashpoint border. DMX death: rapper ‘to get memorial at Yonkers Raceway’ & hometown could build statue or name street after him
DMX may get a memorial at Yonkers Raceway and his hometown is considering building a statue or naming a street after the rap icon. Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said that he has offered the city's largest outdoor venue to the late rapper's family as a way to honor the artist. DMX , whose real name was Earl Simmons, tragically passed away on Friday after a reported drug overdose last week triggered a fatal heart attack. The rapper was reportedly in a "vegetative state" in the hospital for a week before he passed away. His family is reportedly planning both a private and public memorial, and Spano told TMZ that the city of Yonkers wants to ease the burden on the rapper's family. He said he hopes they will use the Yonkers Raceway grounds, which normally has a seating capacity of 7,500 -- but is limited to 20% of that number under current Covid-19 guidelines. Spano said it would be fitting for fans to say goodbye to the rapper in the city where he was raised. There … [Read more...] about DMX death: rapper ‘to get memorial at Yonkers Raceway’ & hometown could build statue or name street after him
