Barry Hearn says it is inevitable that some of the major tournaments in the darts calendar will move away from the UK in the future as the PDC’s global expansion of the sport continues. The bulk of the majors take place in England, including the World Grand Prix which has recently moved to Leicester, first due to the pandemic and then because its traditional venue, Dublin’s Citywest Convention Centre, is housing Ukrainian refugees. The PDC have ambitious plans for the sport, which is looking to gain a foothold in America and held the US Darts Masters at New York’s Madison Square Garden as part of the World Series in June. The objective of the invitational World Series is to grow the game worldwide, with its next three events taking place in Australia and New Zealand this month. SHAPIRO: Debunking The Myth Of ‘Criminal Justice Reform’ | The Daily Wire
You’ve heard people on the Left say that the biggest problem in the criminal justice system in America is mass incarceration. That we have sentences that are too long. That we have sentences that are disparate. That too many people are in jail. That the police are cracking down on black and brown Americans and throwing them in jail for no reason at all, devastating inner cities. In 2020, members of both political parties gravitated toward a catch phrase encapsulating many of these ideas: Criminal justice reform. As Politico noted in April of that year, “Criminal justice reform is finally having a moment in US politics. Until recent years, candidates usually competed to look tough on crime and paint their opponents as soft. But 2020 is different.” 2020 was the year of Black Lives Matter. It was the year of Defund The Police. It was the year of ending the supposed school-to-prison pipeline. It was the year of George Floyd and Ava Duverney and Kamala Harris. It was also … [Read more...] about SHAPIRO: Debunking The Myth Of ‘Criminal Justice Reform’ | The Daily Wire
The Democrats’ new climate bill abandones green zealotry—for reason | Opinion
The Senate has passed the Democrats ' mega climate, health care and taxation bill along party lines and after much griping from Republicans . "The Green New Deal Democrats are coming straight after American natural gas with huge tax hikes," Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said of the bill last week. "The result will be higher electricity bills, higher heating costs, less exporting to our European allies." Senator McConnell has a point: The Inflation Reduction Act's emphasis on solar and wind energy seems misplaced and rife for profiteering by Wall Street and its allies. And yet, to call this bill a representation of "Green New Deal Democrats" is false. The opposite: There bill represents a promising shift away from the hysteria over the "climate catastrophe" and toward more reasonable and effective policies. The Breakthrough Institute's Alex Trembath points out that the bill take a far more "pragmatic approach" than the much larger and more radical Green New … [Read more...] about The Democrats’ new climate bill abandones green zealotry—for reason | Opinion
Being gay is not a disease, Vietnam tells its medical workers in bid to end anti-LGBTQ discrimination
Hanoi — Being gay is not a disease, Vietnam has told its doctors, as it called on medical workers to end discrimination against the LGBTQ community. Campaigners told AFP on Tuesday the statement was a major step forward for LGBTQ rights in the Southeast Asian nation, where gay, bisexual and transgender people have long felt marginalized. In an official document released last week, the health ministry said that "homosexuality cannot be 'cured', does not need 'to be cured' and cannot be changed." It urged medical professionals to be "respectful" of gender and sexual orientation after receiving reports of doctors claiming they could treat gender minorities. "Do not consider homosexuality, bisexuality or being transgender a disease," it said. Although Vietnam is seen as relatively progressive on LGBTQ issues compared with some other countries in Asia, misinformation about sexual orientation and gender identity is widespread. According to a Human Rights Watch report published … [Read more...] about Being gay is not a disease, Vietnam tells its medical workers in bid to end anti-LGBTQ discrimination

Biden didn’t know about FBI search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago ahead of time, White House says
Washington — President Biden was not aware the FBI would be conducting a search of former President Donald Trump's South Florida residence of Mar-a-Lago on Monday and learned about the events through news reports, the White House said. "We learned about this, the president learned about this, just like you all did, through the public reports," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, told reporters Tuesday. "And we learned about this just like the American people did." Asked whether the White House was aware of the search warrant or whether Mr. Biden has been briefed in the aftermath of the search, Jean-Pierre said he was not. Mr. Biden "was not aware of it, no. No one at the White House was given a heads-up," she said. "That did not happen." U.S. officials confirm the search of Trump's home was approved by the highest levels of the Justice Department. Attorney General Merrick Garland is not expected to make any public statements about the investigation or the search, … [Read more...] about Biden didn’t know about FBI search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago ahead of time, White House says

Scientists propose rewilding the American West by reintroducing grey wolves and beavers
In the face of the growing threats posed to ecosystems by climate change, scientists in the US have put forward an "ultra ambitious" proposal to rewild parts of the American West by reintroducing wolves and beavers. Their plan follows President Joe Biden signing an executive order for his America the Beautiful policy that involves a conservation effort to save 30% of water and land in the US by 2030. The administration's plan is to address "a catastrophic extinction crisis that threatens the biodiversity of our planet and the health of the natural systems that supply our food, water, and other resources". It comes as NASA satellite images have revealed the impact on the largest reservoir of water in the US, Lake Mead , of the most severe drought in decades. In a journal article published in BioScience, titled Rewilding the American West , 20 scientists propose rewilding large reserve areas owned by the US federal government to address these concerns. … [Read more...] about Scientists propose rewilding the American West by reintroducing grey wolves and beavers
Donald Trump and the Mar-a-Lago FBI raid—What we do know, what we don’t
America is reeling in shock this week after former President Donald Trump 's Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, was raided by the FBI . It is understood to be part of an ongoing investigation into the potentially unlawful removal and destruction of classified White House records after Trump left office in January 2021. In a statement made via his Truth Social app, Trump claimed the property was " under siege " and that the raid was "unannounced," with many of his supporters arriving at the property to protest the move. While there may be very strong grounds for the investigation, little to no formal information has been shared by the Department of Justice or the FBI, with social media abuzz with conjecture . Claims range from "deep state" conspiracy theories to the possibility that Trump may no longer be able to run for office in 2024 . To help filter the noise, Newsweek has examined the speculation and analysis to try to accurately determine what, at this stage, … [Read more...] about Donald Trump and the Mar-a-Lago FBI raid—What we do know, what we don’t
