“America is a horror movie”: July 4th shooting videos across U.S. go viral

July 5, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

At the close of Independence Day celebrations in Philadelphia, masses of people gathered to watch fireworks. But the celebrations were marred when two police officers working security were shot near the Philadelphia Museum of Art at around 9:50 p.m. local time. The gunfire prompted a stampede on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, with videos on social media capturing the panic as people ran for blocks in all directions in an effort to flee the violence. "America is a horror movie," a Twitter user wrote alongside a clip that captured the panic on the ground while fireworks continued to explode into the night sky. Another clip begins with people, including a child on an adult's shoulders, enjoying the fireworks before the panic spreads through the crowd and people start running. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said the two officers sustained graze wounds and were treated and released from the hospital. But no suspects were in custody, Outlaw told … [Read more...] about “America is a horror movie”: July 4th shooting videos across U.S. go viral

Singer Rihanna: Trump ‘The Most Mentally Ill Human Being In America’ | The Daily Wire

October 9, 2019 by www.dailywire.com

Apparently, President Trump is “the most mentally ill human being in America” because of his stance on gun control, according to singer Rihanna. Speaking with Vogue , the “Umbrella” singer lamented about how “war weapons” were used to kill people in recent shootings while scolding President Trump for claiming gun violence is a “mental illness problem.” “It is devastating,” she said. “People are being murdered by war weapons that they legally purchase. This is just not normal. That should never, ever be normal. And the fact that it’s classified as something different because of the color of their skin? It’s a slap in the face.” Rihanna went on to accuse the president of having a racial animus. “It’s completely racist ,” she said. “Put an Arab man with that same weapon in that same Walmart and there is no way that Trump would sit there and address it publicly as a mental health problem . The most mentally ill human being in America right now seems to be the president.” In … [Read more...] about Singer Rihanna: Trump ‘The Most Mentally Ill Human Being In America’ | The Daily Wire

America is in denial, Mitt Romney writes. The origin of vibes A crisis historian has some bad news for us. Losing Faith We do not yet know why a shooter opened fire on a crowd in Illinois yesterday. Given what we know about the suspected killer, I think it is unlikely that the massacre in Highland Park was part of an organized terror plot, but rather yet another case of a young male loser attacking his own community. Nonetheless, the effect of these mass shootings is the same as … [Read more...] about A Nation of Hostages

Ukraine must be rebuilt as a fortress of Western values – here’s a blueprint

July 5, 2022 by www.telegraph.co.uk

Western leaders have descended on the picturesque Swiss lakeside town of Lugano to thrash out a “Marshall Plan” to rebuild war-ravaged Ukraine. The naysayers point out that comparisons with post second world war reconstruction of Europe are misleading given that the Marshall Plan was implemented after Germany was defeated. It’s a fair point. On the other hand, is there anything wrong with preparing for a day when Putin’s bombs and guns eventually fall silent? It doesn’t mean the West is giving up the fight. It can, and should continue to arm Kyiv with state-of-the-art weapons. But with Russia claiming to be in control of the Luhansk region, the assumption is that it won’t be too long before it takes neighbouring Donetsk too, allowing the Kremlin to claim its strategic objectives have been met, and effectively bringing an end to the war. That’s not to say that Ukraine should accept the loss of a sizeable slice of its eastern territory. Merely that such an outcome looks … [Read more...] about Ukraine must be rebuilt as a fortress of Western values – here’s a blueprint

Federal judge whose son was killed in ambush: “My son’s death cannot be in vain”

September 11, 2021 by www.cbsnews.com

[This story originally aired on February 20.] In July 2020, Daniel Anderl, the son of federal Judge Esther Salas and attorney Mark Anderl, was shot dead by a gunman at the front door of the family's New Jersey home. Daniel Anderl, 20, took a bullet to his chest trying to protect his parents. By the time Judge Salas came to the door, the killer was gone. Her husband, Mark, was wounded. "I have direct evidence that he died heroically, that he had a holy death," says David Oakley, Daniel Anderl's godfather and a family friend. The stranger who came to Judge Salas' door had been holding a package, posing as a deliveryman.  Just eight days earlier, a chillingly similar incident took place in California. When attorney Marc Angelucci came to his door to sign for a package, he was also shot dead. "He was just a down-to-earth, at the center of his soul a good-hearted person," Marc's friend,  Cassie Jaye, tells CBS News correspondent Tracy Smith. "[Sighs] I was trying to make … [Read more...] about Federal judge whose son was killed in ambush: “My son’s death cannot be in vain”

Illinois GOP candidate says “Let’s move on” hours after Chicago shooting

July 5, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Illinois gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey posted a video in which he said "let's move on and celebrate the independence of this nation" hours after a deadly mass shooting a Fourth of July parade in suburban Chicago . Bailey, a Republican, shared a Facebook Live video about 12p.m. CT (1.p.m. ET) on Monday, about two hours after the shootings began—shortly after 10a.m. CT (11a.m. ET)—in the city's Highland Park suburb. At least six were killed and 30 injured in the latest mass shooting to stun the U.S ., this time on the day Americans united to celebrate the nation's founding. Police have taken 22-year-old "person of interest" Robert E. Crimo III into custody following a manhunt. Bailey's campaign later issued a clarification following criticism, apologizing "if in any way we diminished the pain being felt across our state today." Bailey's broadcast was made from Skokie, near Highland Park, where another July 5 parade was canceled following the shooting.
