After 22 days Portugal’s political crisis is over. At least for now. The President of the Republic, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, has finally accepted the reshuffle put forward by the Prime Minister weeks ago. Life goes on and the Government too, but without a ‘National Salvation’ agreement with the PS. Next week, Pedro Passos Coelho will present a motion of confidence to Parliament, to re-legitimise the Government and provide proof that it is united in its PSD majority with its new ministers. There are three questions now on the table. 1 – How has political influence been redistributed now in Portugal? The CDS, the minority coalition party, which bagged 12% of the votes in the elections in 2011, increases its power in relation to the PSD, which garnered 38%. From the CDS’s point-of-view, it seems that the tantrums Paulo Portas made over the appointment of Maria Luís Albuquerque to Finance, leading to his resignation as Minister of Foreign Affairs, has … [Read more...] about Analysis: Portugal’s new balance of powerMotorways: Electronic tolls explainedMadeira: Funchal launches dengue prevention planBusiness: Angolan investment in Portugal rose 35-foldForeign students: A guide to studying in PortugalAnalysis: ‘A guide to the coalition government’s health’, by PDV editor Vítor MatosBailout: New Portugal mission chief appointed in troika reshuffleStatistics: Unemployment figures fall for 2nd month in a rowPress Review: Government plans to slash business tax to 17% by 2018Earnings: Another six-monthly loss at Millennium BCPMessage to our readers: Why we are supending our daily updates

THE parents of Madeleine McCann have defended the new police cash boost to help find their daughter - and urged critics to “stop being armchair detectives.” Kate and Gerry hit back after a top ex-cop said solving the Maddie riddle after nearly 11 years was “almost impossible”. And the parents of two missing children slammed the Government for handing over more money for the high-profile hunt. It comes after the Home Office last week confirmed Scotland Yard would get extra funds - understood to be £150,000 - to chase a vital “final line of inquiry”. A close pal of the couple told the Sun Online today: “Kate and Gerry do not feel their daughter’s case should be given any more priority than any other missing child but there is an active police investigation ongoing and officers still feel there is important work left to be done. “The Met Police have requested extra funding and have been granted it. Italy summoned the French ambassador for consultations on Saturday after armed French border patrol agents used an Italian train station to force a Nigerian train passenger to provide a urine sample for a drug test. France said it had a right to use the facility at the Bardonecchia train station west of Turin, citing a 1990 agreement. But Italy shot back, saying just this month it had told French customs authorities that the station room was now off limits because a humanitarian aid group was there to provide care and counselling for migrants seeking to make the dangerous Alpine crossing into France. The undisputed queen of effortless style, Alexa Chung’s foray into fashion has seen her become the face of some of the world’s most recognisable brands, the launch of her eponymous label and several collaborations. But there’s one area the It girl has overlooked, until now that is. Having been a brand ambassador for Superga since 2011, Chung has injected her signature British style into the minimalist Italian brand by creating her very own exclusive capsule collection. ‘My mother wore Supergas when I was growing up so for me they’ve always been a classic shoe,’ Chung says “It has been wonderful to return to this brand as a designer working on a collaboration for this season because in the past Superga were one of the first companies to let me art direct a campaign for them. It feels a lot like coming home,” Chung says. “My mother wore Supergas when I was growing up so for me they’ve … [Read more...] about Alexa Chung launches trainer collaboration with Superga
