An allegation of rape against a Tory MP was made by a male politician who was a teenager when they first met, The Telegraph understands, amid growing pressure on the Conservative Party to name him. The MP was released on police bail on Wednesday. Sir Keir Starmer, the Labour leader and former director of public prosecutions, on Wednesday backed calls for the Conservative MP to be publicly identified . His name - as well as those of MPs misidentified - has been widely circulating on social media. The confusion prompted one MP falsely identified on social media to make a show of remaining in Parliament, enjoying lunch on the Commons terrace. The MP was arrested on suspicion of rape, sexual assault and indecent assault as well as abuse of position of trust and misconduct in public office. The alleged sexual offences are reported to have been committed between 2002 and 2009, according to the Metropolitan Police. Woman who was allegedly forced by husband to behead her co-worker denies shooting him
The wife of a New Hampshire man accused of killing her co-worker after he discovered they were texting - and then forcing her to behead him - denied shooting him Wednesday, and testified that both were brutally assaulted by her husband in the hours leading up to the death that night. Britany Barron, 33, testified at her husband's first-degree murder trial that he choked and punched her and eventually put his gun into her mouth. "You know that you're going to die tonight, right?" she testified her husband, Armando Barron, said in September 2020, not long before the two left the house to go to the park where he allegedly used her phone to tell the co-worker to meet her there. "Don't do anything stupid or the girls are going to walk into something (expletive) gruesome," she testified he said as they were leaving. He had sent the couple's three young children to go to their grandmother's home next door. On the way to the park, he read the texts aloud, striking her after … [Read more...] about Woman who was allegedly forced by husband to behead her co-worker denies shooting him
Alleged cult member refers to daughter as “property” in bodycam footage
Newly released body camera footage posted online showed an alleged cult member referring to his daughter as his "property." The TikTok uploaded by Syran Warner, or @syranwarner, received more than 200,000 views and 800 comments from concerned viewers. The viral video can be viewed here . Merriam-Webster defines a cult as a "great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work." What can make following a cult dangerous are the systems of influence and control that members are subjected to . Data published by Science Direct found that highly educated women searching for personal or spiritual identity are most likely to join a cult. According to Warner, The Body began in 2003 by a man named Marc B. Warner claims that the cult allegedly creates family separation such as mothers abandoning their children. In the video, Warner said he was a journalist working to "takedown" a cult in Tonasket, Washington, called The Body. House passes bill to crack down on alleged gas price gouging
The House of Representatives passed a bill along party lines Thursday that seeks to lower gas prices by cracking down on alleged price gouging by energy companies. The House vote was 217-207: no Republican supported the bill, suggesting it's likely headed for failure in the Senate. The Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act would grant the president authority to issue emergency energy proclamations and make it illegal to increase gas and energy prices in excessive and exploitative ways. It would also expand the Federal Trade Commission's power to investigate and address possible price gouging by oil and gas companies. Four House Democrats joined Republicans in opposing the bill: Reps. Jared Golden, of Maine; Lizzie Fletcher, of Texas; Stephanie Murphy, of Florida; and Kathleen Rice, of New York. In the days leading up to the vote, it was unclear whether the legislation would have enough support to pass, since some moderate Democrats were frustrated with the bill. Murphy, … [Read more...] about House passes bill to crack down on alleged gas price gouging
Armie Hammer True-Crime Special Will Detail 5 Generations of Family Sins
Photo: Vera Anderson/WireImage Armie Hammer and his family’s ghoulish history is the subject of a new Discovery+ special, tentatively titled House of Hammer . The Edgar Allan Poe fever dream of a TV episode promises to follow five generations of the Hammer family through their sordid past, using “a trove of archive and interviews from survivors and family members,” per a press release. The series promises to dive into a “dysfunctional dynasty with its male characters exhibiting all the devastating consequences of privilege gone wild.” Vanity Fair pieced together the long history of intrigue and even outright violent behavior from the Hammer family in a feature. In 1919, the actor’s great-great-grandfather, Dr. Julius Hammer, was convicted of first-degree manslaughter and sentenced to jail after performing an abortion on the wife of a Russian diplomat. Hammer’s descendants later cozied up to Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin to fortify their oil connections in the region. Keir Starmer: ‘About 15’ people were at ‘beergate’ gathering
Sir Keir Starmer has admitted that "about 15" people were at the "beergate" gathering in April last year. The Labour leader said he had "put everything on the line" over the controversy and insisted he was the "complete opposite" of Boris Johnson . Sir Keir has vowed to resign if he is issued with a fixed penalty notice over a takeaway curry with colleagues in Durham. He was caught on camera drinking a beer in a local MP's office after a day of campaigning for elections last spring. At the time, Covid rules meant indoor gatherings were banned except for work purposes. Appearing on Loose Women for the first time, the Labour leader said "about 15 or so" people were present for the curry. "The team is always pretty much the same," he said. "We've got a camera person, a videographer, comms adviser, policy adviser, someone from my leader's office who organises the visit, two protection officers and me, that's the eight that I travel with everywhere I go." Previously, … [Read more...] about Keir Starmer: ‘About 15’ people were at ‘beergate’ gathering
Press regulator rejects 6,000 complaints against Angela Rayner ‘Basic Instinct’ story
The press regulator has rejected 6,000 complaints about the Angela Rayner "Basic Instinct" story that was branded sexist by many in Westminster, because the politician herself did not personally protest against the report. Labour’s deputy leader was reported to have used the tactic of crossing and uncrossing her legs to distract Boris Johnson during Prime Minister’s Questions - a claim she dismissed as symptomatic of the “sexism and misogyny” directed at women in politics. An inquiry was launched to find the source of the story among the Tory ranks. The initial Mail on Sunday report provoked 6,000 complaints to the Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso). However, the regulator has said it cannot act on their complaints and would require Ms Rayner’s cooperation to assess the accuracy of the claims. The press regulator has also indicated that it is not its place to act on third-party claims of discrimination, as only the person subjected to alleged abuse is in a … [Read more...] about Press regulator rejects 6,000 complaints against Angela Rayner ‘Basic Instinct’ story
Martin McGuinness dies at 66: Queen to send private message to widow of former IRA commander
It is a measure of Martin McGuinness’s remarkable transformation from IRA commander to peacemaker that Buckingham Palace announced yesterday that the Queen has decided to send a private letter of condolence to his widow. The IRA had, after all, assassinated Earl Mountbatten of Burma, the Queen’s second cousin and Duke of Edinburgh’s uncle, by placing a bomb on his fishing boat. The earl’s 14-year-old grandson was also murdered in the atrocity in 1979, the same year McGuinness was appointed the Provisional IRA’s chief of staff. But 33 years after those murders, Her Majesty found herself shaking the “bloodied” hands of the “Butcher of Bogside”. The historic photographs of their first meeting in 2012 illustrated just how far he, and Irish politics, had travelled. On Tuesday Buckingham Palace declined to issue a public statement on the former Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister. But the Queen’s offer to send private condolences to Bernie, his widow, shows … [Read more...] about Martin McGuinness dies at 66: Queen to send private message to widow of former IRA commander
The final plot twist in Wagatha Christie? No one can possibly win
Turn down the sound in Court 13 and stare upon its cold stone walls; its towering leaded light windows; its ornate oak panelling and wrought iron chandeliers. Observe the grandiose men in their gowns and wigs and one sees a fully formed tableau of an entirely Dickensian world. At the end of cases that have borne every outward resemblance to this one, it would not have been uncommon to see an unfortunate man transported to Botany Bay for life for the theft of a loaf of bread. The grand oak clock high up on its walls has turned through 150 years or more. If it contained a photographic camera, the roll of film within would scarcely have recorded the change of actual centuries of human life. That the set of this mad drama has not been redressed since the days of the workhouse only makes the script more startling. The clipped tones of public school barristers have rung around this room forever. They have never before been called in to arbitrate over what amounts to very little … [Read more...] about The final plot twist in Wagatha Christie? No one can possibly win
Disabled veteran gives mouth-to-mouth to loyal support dog shot with arrow
Retired veteran Billy Morris faced a dog owner's worst nightmare, after realizing his support dog , Cotton, had apparently been shot with an arrow. Morris noticed Cotton approach him while out feeding the chickens on his mini farm in Oak Grove, Alabama, only to then notice an object poking out of his body. "When he turned broadside, I noticed he had an object sticking out of his side," Morris told WBRC. Cotton actually had an arrow in his body, and Morris does not believe it was an accident. The four-year-old Great Pyrenees is a support dog for Morris, who is a disabled veteran. "He was hardly breathing. He actually laid down at my feet and in that moment I knew he was in serious trouble," added Morris. Using his military training, Morris immediately wrapped Cotton up and took him to a veterinarian, having to perform mouth-to-muzzle breathing on his pet on the way. "I was afraid I was going to lose my dog. He was at less than 20 percent breathing capacity, I was … [Read more...] about Disabled veteran gives mouth-to-mouth to loyal support dog shot with arrow
