Gary Murphy, 61, was attacked in the shower block at Long Bay jail in Sydney, Corrective Services NSW confirmed. He is now in a critical condition at St Vincent's Hospital. Murphy, along with his brothers Michael and Leslie Murphy, and John Travers and Michael Murdoch, were all jailed for life over the murder of 26-year-old Ms Cobby in 1986. Michael Murphy died in Long Bay jail in February. The murder of Ms Cobby shocked Australia after her body was found in a paddock at Prospect in western Sydney. Tearful dad sees son for the first time after donating organ to save his life
The tears of a dad seeing his son again for the first time after he donated an organ to save his life have been captured in this touching photo. Matt Price, 39, wept tears of joy as he was reunited with son Callan, now 17 months, on a hospital ward after they had both undergone surgery. In the picture, the dad can be seen tenderly reaching out to touch his tiny baby son, who was still drowsy as he recovered from the surgery that would save his life. The dad donated part of his own liver after Callan was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition which meant his body was slowly poisoning itself. The youngster had been rushed away by doctors when he was first born and fell into a coma when he was four-days-old. His distraught parents Matt Price, 39 and his wife Jen, 36, were told the devastating news that their baby boy may not make it through the night. Suffolk serial killer Steve Wright jailed for life
Steve Wright will spend the rest of his life in jail for killing five women in Suffolk in what prosecutors described as a six-week "campaign of murder". Judge Mr Justice Gross, at Ipswich crown court, ruled that Wright, a 49-year-old former forklift truck driver, should serve a whole life term and never be released. The murders of the women, all of whom worked as prostitutes in Ipswich, terrified the town and led to one of the country's biggest police investigations. "It is right you should spend your whole life in prison," the judge said. "This was a targeted campaign of murder." He told Wright a life sentence was mandatory, but that he had to decide whether or not he should be eligible for parole. "I must pass a sentence which meets the justice of the case," he added. "In my judgment, upon reflection it must be a whole life term."
