Jason Donovan ’s Dancing On Ice partner Alexandra Schauman has paid a gushing tribute to the star following his exit from the ITV show. Former Neighbours star Jason, 52, was forced to hang up his ice skates earlier than expected due to a back injury. The theatre star took some time off the ice rink to recover from the injury - but ITV has since confirmed that he won't be returning to the show at all. Dancing on Ice has been plunged into jeopardy as five stars have dropped out. Jason Donovan was forced to pull out of Sunday's episode because of back pain after doctor's orders. Five dropouts have plagued Dancing on Ice this year and it's only early doors in the competition. Phillip Schofield had already issued a stark warning the show was out of reserves. Now it's reportedly emerged TV bosses have been panicking about the numbers behind the scenes. A TV source told The Sun : "It's already a stretch making a two-hour episode of a show in a pandemic. "But if any more pull out, they will struggle to fill the slot. They are already panicking about numbers. "If Jason goes for good and there's another injury, they may be forced off-air." The Dancing On Ice crisis just got even worse. In what has been the unluckiest series ever, Jason Donovan just became the seventh star to pull out of the contest . The Australian actor and singer, who was partnered with professional Alex Schauman, has pulled out of the ITV show for good after suffering an injury to his back. It was confirmed tonight that he won't be returning to the rink. An ITV spokesperson said: "Jason Donovan has brought us so much joy with his performances on Dancing On Ice – from Priscilla through to the tango. Dancing On Ice fans couldn't believe how "young" hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield looked in a throwback to the show's first ever episode. The show was axed this weekend, taking a week's break due to all the injuries and exits, as well as skaters having to isolate amid the coronavirus pandemic. Holly and Phil narrated the show, reminiscing on the past 15 years of the show since it debuted on ITV. She and her co-host had never worked together before this point, as the first ever episode opening was shown to viewers on Sunday night.
