Picture Danny Loo Aldi’s new Welwyn Garden City store is creating 40 new jobs and the budget retailer will announce plans for its store launch celebrations in the coming weeks. It had stated on its website that it would be opening this month, but banners outside the store advertise an opening date of April 5. The supermarket, which was proud to be crowned Employer of the Year 2017 at the Grocer Gold Awards, still has vacancies to fill. Aldi is looking for an assistant store manager, deputy store manager, store assistants and an apprentice. Picture: VECTOR Archant Plans to build an Aldi store in Martlesham Heath are set to get the green light on Monday after overwhelming public support resulted in nearly 900 letters backing the build. Back by popular demand, Aldi ’s sell-out Spa Pool that whirled shoppers into a frenzy last spring will return to stores with 50% more tubs available. Suitable for indoor or outdoor use, Aldi’s 795-litre Spa Pool features 120 powerful air jets and a 2200W heater. Available from March 29, customers will be able to pre-order the luxury hot tub online from March 25 - it costs £279.99. Because of the expected high demand, there will be a limit of one hot tub per customer. Julie Ashfield, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi UK, said: "Last year, we saw unprecedented demand for our Spa Pool and are thrilled to be bringing more back for our customers to enjoy this spring." A SUPERMARKET chain is looking to open several new stores across Dorset, creating hundreds of jobs. Aldi described Dorset as an important growth area and is now looking for sites in Dorchester, Shaftesbury, Blandford, Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch with further towns expected to be announced soon. The new openings are part of the budget chain’s plan to open 1,000 new stores in the UK in the next few years and comes as it overtakes the Co-operative as the UK’s fifth biggest supermarket, according to data from Kantar Worldpanel. Matthew Barnes, chief executive of Aldi, said: “If you look at the population, we think not only could we have a store in every town and city, but for every 25,000 to 30,000 people." “We have 700 stores now and 300 sites already approved on our books.
