The heartbroken dad of murdered Logan Mwangi wants to change the law so that estranged parents are told if social services become involved with their biological children. Benjamin Mwangi did not know his five-year-old boy had been placed on the child protection register in the months before he was killed by his mum, stepdad and stepbrother. Kevin and Irina McCarthy’s lives tragically ended Monday after a shooter allegedly climbed to the rooftop of a Highland Park, Illinois, building and gunned down a crowd celebrating the July Fourth holiday. A man who stabbed a nine-year-old boy in the face and hands has been given an indefinite hospital order. The young boy was walking home with his older brother in Peterborough on May 8 last year when Faisal Khan, 26, began following him. Khan overtook the pair before turning back and wielding a knife, grabbing the child and stabbing him about 15 times. The shocking attack continued until neighbours rushed out of their houses to help save him. Khan then fled from the scene and discarded a bloodied knife on a nearby driveway. He was arrested by police but they deemed him not fit to be interviewed. The boy survived but was left with life-changing injuries and permanent scarring. On Friday, Khan was sent to hospital for indefinite treatment instead of prison after he previously admitted attempted murder. He will only be released when he is deemed not to pose any risk to the public. A woman shot dead in Gisborne has been named as Chephar Hollis-Brown. A homicide investigation is under way into the death of the 25-year-old mother of one, who was shot early on Sunday morning. Police were called to a house in Centennial Cres, Te Hapara, at 3.45am on Sunday to reports of a woman being shot. She was dead when police arrived. Eastern district crime services manager Detective Inspector Dave de Lange said the local community would continue to see a high police presence in the area. The fossilized skeleton of a T. rex relative that roamed the earth about 76 million years ago will be auctioned in New York this month, Sotheby's announced Tuesday. The Gorgosaurus skeleton will highlight Sotheby's natural history auction on July 28, the auction house said. The Gorgosaurus was an apex carnivore that lived in what is now the western United States and Canada during the late Cretaceous Period. It predated its relative the Tyrannosaurus rex by 10 million years. The specimen being sold was discovered in 2018 in the Judith River Formation near Havre, Montana, Sotheby's said. It measures nearly 10 feet tall and 22 feet long. All of the other known Gorgosaurus skeletons are in museum collections, making this one the only specimen available for private ownership, the auction house said. You may not have realised, but there is actually a minimum age to use Snapchat. The photo and video messaging app requires its users to be a minimum of 13 years old to use their app. The regulation is in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) which tries to protect children from the deregulated space of the internet where they are not protected from things that want to hurt and take advantage of them. However, they don’t make it very hard to fool, do they? When you open the Snapchat app for the first time and haven’t created an account or username yet, you have to go through the whole process.
