A para-athlete seriously injured when he was hit by a car while taking part in a charity event has spoken of his determination to return to competition.Daniel Metcalfe-Hall suffered a spinal injury and severe concussion when a car, which had attempted to overtake him on a bend, collided with a lorry before bouncing back into the path of his hand cycle. An Olympic gymnast from Cheshire has launched legal action against the makers of a TV program after she was injured while taking part. Beth Tweddle, originally from Bunbury near Nantwich, was injured on The Jump in 2016 when she fractured her vertebrae. CheshireLive, StokeonTrentLive's sister outlet, reports the gymnast had to undergo surgery on her neck and spinal cord after she crashed into a barrier during a training jump during filming for the third series of the Channel 4 show. The athlete has previously said she has sought help from a psychologist following the injury as part of her recovery. This afternoon it was revealed Beth is taking the company behind The Jump to court. In a statement she said: "It's been a long journey and my recovery is still ongoing. Prince Philip should not apologise for the car crash which left two women injured, according to celebrity lawyer Nick Freeman. Mr Freeman - nicknamed "Mr Loophole" - said there is there is "no requirement" for the Duke of Edinburgh to do anything as a criminal investigation has started. He said it would be wrong to apologise while liability or culpability for the crash has not been established. But Mr Freeman added that if the duke is culpable, he should save taxpayers' money and admit his guilt. "A criminal investigation is going on so there's no requirement for the Duke of Edinburgh to do anything of provide anything," he said. "If he apologises, he could be admitting he's guilty." December 29th marks the five-year anniversary of the skiing accident that shattered the life of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher . The seven-time world champion suffered a severe brain injury after falling whilst skiing with his 14 year-old son at Meribel in the French Alps in 2013. He was brought out of a medically-induced coma in April the following year but has shown only a slow rate of recovery, and a family lawyer reported in September 2016 that the former champion was still unable to walk or speak.
