The Queen's Gambit was one of 2020's most talked about series, earning huge streaming numbers and rave reviews. And now the Netflix chess drama is heading to Broadway, courtesy of production company Level Forward. Level Forward has obtained the rights to the Walter Tevis novel the awards-winning show was based on and is now developing a musical adaptation of the Anya Taylor-Joy-fronted limited series. Music to my ears: The Queen's Gambit is being adapted into a musical by Level Forward production company, which just acquired the rights to the book the series is based off of The company has a history on hits on stage, previously working on Alanis Morrissette's musical Jagged Little Pill and Jeremy O'Harris' critically-acclaimed Slave Play. Lottery winner killed pensioner after taking eyes off road to find son’s teddy, court hears
Britain's youngest EuroMillions jackpot winner killed a pensioner in a Christmas Day car crash after taking his eyes off the road to find his toddler's teddy bear, a court has heard. Matthew Topham, who pocketed £45m in the win in 2012, had been visiting his wife's family before the collision at 5.50pm on 25 December 2019. Lincoln Crown Court heard he took his eyes off the road for "up to three seconds" before crashing his BMW into a Ford Fiesta driven by 78-year-old Rodney Regler in Louth Road, North Cockerington, Lincolnshire. As a result, Mr Regler's wife, 75-year-old Mary Jane Regler, died from severe chest injuries. In a statement to the court, Mr Regler said he shouted "Christ's sake, he's on my side of the road" just before the crash, adding: "Then I was hit... then it went quiet... A EuroMillions winner killed a pensioner after taking his eyes off the road to retrieve a teddy bear dropped by his infant son, a court heard today. Matt Topham, 31, who landed a £45m jackpot in 2012, dialled 999 and carried dying Jane Regler, 75, out of her car following the Christmas Day crash. A jury heard in the moments before the collision the dad had been “distracted” by the screaming and crying of his two-year-old son. He told police how he turned around for ‘up to three seconds’ while trying to locate the teddy in a rear footwell. Topham, who was driving a BMW X6, admits causing Jane’s death by careless driving but denies two other offences. Part of his police interview was read out during his trial today. A British royal drama seeped in controversy caused shockwaves over in LA on Sunday night... as The Crown won four categories at the Critics’ Choice Awards. The Netflix royals (no, not those two) reigned victorious in two TV acting categories, with Emma Corrin, 25, and Josh O’Connor, 30 – who play Princess Diana and Prince Charles – named Best Actress and Best Actor in a Drama Series. Emma pipped Olivia Colman, who plays The Queen in the series, for the win. Gillian Anderson, 52, was named Best Supporting Actress for her role as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and The Crown was named Best Drama.
