Leaked Tory plans to slash aid would see Britain "turn its back on some of the most vulnerable people in the world", the government has been warned. Leaked documents revealed by investigative news site openDemocracy have hinted at the scale of Overseas Development Assistance cuts being discussed within the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. According to the leaked emails support to the Western Balkans, which includes both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, is slated to be cut by half. Aid to Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo could be slashed by 60%. Also among the cuts are nations that have seen recent or ongoing violence - with cuts in aid to Syria by 67%, Libya by 63%, Nigeria by 58% and South Sudan by 59%. In November, Chancellor Rishi Sunak confirmed that the UK would cut its aid spending from 0.7% of GDP to 0.5% - but did not confirm which countries or projects could lose out. Why ‘The Little Prince’ is still one of the world’s favorite books
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince" was first released in New York on April 6, 1943. The fairy tale about the likable little blond boy from the asteroid B 612 was instantly praised by critics—and has since gained a cult following. Joseph Hanimann, Swiss writer and author of Saint-Exupéry's biography told DW there is something mysterious about the little prince who looks at the world through the eyes of a child but articulates his observations like a wise man. Chapter by chapter, the prince touches on friendship, love, technological progress, consumption and the decay of modern society. These elements, according to Hanimann, make the book more relevant today than ever. DW: Can you still remember what it was like when you first read "The Little Prince?" Joseph Hanimann: I was a child back then, and I admit that I did not understand the book. It was quite puzzling to me. However, there is something enigmatic about "The Little Prince," even when I read it today, which, … [Read more...] about Why ‘The Little Prince’ is still one of the world’s favorite books

Hong Kong's High Court said it would publish its reasons for rejecting Thursday's application at a later date. Hong Kong schools to teach children as young as six about colluding with foreign forces Last week the Court of Final Appeal ruled a lower court's decision last year to grant Mr Lai bail applied "an erroneous line of reasoning", but allowed his team to go to the High Court.
