Tenant ordered to pay for ‘considerable’ damage to St Andrews property
A woman has been found liable for almost $11,000 damage to a property she rented in St Andrews, south of Timaru. Marie Milne's tenancy of the property ended on February 5, 2021, but a final decision from the Tenancy Tribunal was only delivered in July. The decision says damage to the property included holes in the walls in a bedroom, laundry, kitchen, lounge and garage, while doors, pavers, a fence, gate and trellis were also damaged. Carpets and curtains were damaged and some had to be replaced, as did the oven. The landlord, Michelle Greer Real Estate Limited, of Timaru, successfully applied to the tribunal for rent arrears, compensation, a disposal of goods order, refund of the bond, and reimbursement of the filing fee following the end of the tenancy. Iota’s 2022 football preview: Bulldogs’ playoff hopes centered around confident defensive unit
What We Know Defense is going to be the calling card for the Iota Bulldogs this season. That’s not to say there won’t be high expectations for the Bulldogs’ offense, but it is without question the defensive unit is the strength of Iota’s team. The Bulldogs, who went 8-4 overall and advanced to the second round of the Class 3A playoffs a year ago, return all but one starter from a defensive unit that is led by all-state linebacker Dayton Boone. “We basically have everybody back except for one on defense,” Iota head football coach Ray Aucoin said. “We have 10 players that started back, but we also have about three or four players returning that received significant playing time on defense. So, we have some experience on the defensive side.” Among the position groups defensively that has Aucoin excited is the defensive line, not only because of the amount of depth, but the quality of the depth. “We’re going to be a traditional 4-3 defense,” Aucoin said. … [Read more...] about Iota’s 2022 football preview: Bulldogs’ playoff hopes centered around confident defensive unit

Finland and Estonia call for EU ban on tourist visas for Russians
The leaders of Estonia and Finland want other EU countries to stop issuing tourist visas to Russian citizens, saying they should not be able to travel to Europe on holiday while the Kremlin carries out a devastating war in Ukraine. Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas wrote on Tuesday that “visiting Europe is a privilege, not a human right” and that it is “time to end tourism from Russia now”. In response, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev compared Kallas to a “Nazi”. A day earlier, her Finnish counterpart Sanna Marin said in a TV interview that "it is not right that while Russia is waging an aggressive, brutal war of aggression in Europe, Russians can live a normal life, travel in Europe, be tourists." Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto told Euronews recently that the government would move to limit the number of tourist visas issued to Russians, but hoped the EU would take a common stand on the issue and stop granting new visas completely. … [Read more...] about Finland and Estonia call for EU ban on tourist visas for Russians
