60th year celebration
MINI are kicking off their 60th birthday celebrations with a special limited edition model – just 500 of which will be for sale in the UK. The MINI 3-door Hatch Cooper S 60 Years Edition comes in eye-catching British Racing Green with a contrasting black roof, special bonnet stripes and a 60 Years emblem dotted around the vehicle. It is shod with exclusive 17in two-tone alloys and UK versions will be sold with an additional set of MINI spot lamps fitted to the front radiator grille. The interior echoes the exterior, with the 60 Years emblem prominent on the steering wheel and front seats. These are finished in a dark brown leather with contrasting stitching and piping matching the exterior paintwork. Unlike Alex Issigonis’s original Mini, first revealed to the world in August 1959, the new special model comes packed with hi-tech kit, including an 8.8in touch display with sat nav, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, concierge service and wireless charging. A devoted couple who last year celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary have been left upset after losing their precious wedding ring. Jean and Terry Sweeny believe they lost Jean’s gold wedding band sometime last week in South Shields after it slipped off her finger. The couple from Highfield Road in the town are now appealing for the public’s help to find the treasured ring.Their daughter Jackie Astley, 53, hopes anyone who may see it in the town will get in touch with the Gazette.She says it could be anywhere in the town, with the couple often visiting the likes of the Little Haven, Asda and Morrisons.Jackie said: “The ring is very old. Combs Brownies kept up their tradition of lending hands and helping others as part of the group’s 60th birthday celebrations.
