Half of six-year-olds in England do not get enough exercise each day, according to a study. Only 53 per cent do the 60 minutes of vigorous exercise recommended by the NHS for the age group — with girls doing less than boys. This can include playing in the park, games in PE at school and sports like football or tennis. Regular exercise is vital for strengthening muscles and bones during children's development and also in fighting off obesity. It comes amid a growing childhood obesity epidemic that means one in five youngsters in England are too fat by the time they start primary school. Childhood obesity reached 'unprecedented levels' during the Covid pandemic, with children sat at home and not able to run around in playgrounds. An increasing chorus of experts, advocates and watchdogs are calling on the Government to raise the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to at least 14. At just 10 years old, a child can’t smoke, drink or have their own Facebook page, but they can be held criminally responsible for violent crimes such as murder or manslaughter . Amnesty International Aotearoa on Friday launched a petition calling on the justice minister to raise the age to at least 14. Last month, the Children’s Commissioner Judge Frances Eivers and Disability Rights Commissioner Paula Tesoriero wrote a joint letter to Parliament’s Justice Select Committee , in support of raising the age to at least 14, but preferably 15 or 16. A woman claims she ended up looking like Al Pacino's character Tony Montana in the iconic film Scarface , after her cat clawed her. Mandy Morris managed to see the funny side of the impromptu attack and shared a clip of the scratch running across her eye to her TikTok account, @iamwillywonky. "When your cat accidentally makes you Al Pacino," she captioned the footage, showing her looking menacingly at the camera. Morris, from Kansas City, Missouri, added the caption "not a fun way to wake up," but explained to Newsweek that the scar was the result of a total accident. A 4-year-old boy in Indiana died on Monday after he wandered onto a highway and was struck by a car in the middle of he night. In a press release, the Warrick County Sheriff’s office identified the young boy as Braxton Freeze, and said the fatal accident took place just after 4am at State Road 66 and Lincoln Avenue. The boy’s mother was visiting her boyfriend and the three were staying at a nearby business. As the two adults slept, Freeze wandered outside of where they were staying and ran into the middle of the road. The driver, who was headed to work and driving 45 to 50 mph, immediately exited the vehicle and called 911 upon striking the child. Shortly after he began CPR on Freeze, following instructions over the phone from the emergency dispatcher. Despite the driver’s efforts, Freeze was pronounced dead at the scene. An 8-year-old girl who disappeared in 2019 at the age of 5, but was not reported missing until two years later, is believed to be dead, police in New Hampshire said Thursday. Harmony Montgomery was likely killed in Manchester in early December 2019, Attorney General John Formella said. The young girl went missing sometime between November 28 and December 10 in 2019, but police were not alerted to her disappearance until December of 2021, according to Fox 13 . ‘All of the (investigative) efforts have led us to conclude that Harmony Montgomery was murdered in Manchester in early December of 2019,’ Formella said. An 89-year-old grandmother was mauled to death by a pit bull , according to Nevada police officers. The Las Vegas Police Department (LVPD) was first alerted to reports that a woman was being attacked by a dog in the 4100 block of Pennwood Avenue at about 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Every year millions of Americans are bitten by dogs and hundreds of thousands need to be treated for those bites. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 4.5 million people are attacked by dogs and 800,000 need treatment for bite injuries. Responding emergency service personnel pronounced the woman died shortly after they arrived at the property, according to Fox-affiliated KVVU-TV. A mental health nurse who was jailed for taking her NHS-funded 'company car' to a car wash after her son shot and wounded a love rival in the back seat has been struck off. Patricia Dean called in sick at work to get her Mercedes deep-cleaned after her 31-year-old son Vincenzo De Falco shot Jonathan Smith in the leg at point blank range with a shotgun, while buying cannabis from him in January 2019. As police hunted her son, Dean, a specialist mental health nurse at North Manchester General Hospital, had the vehicle undergo a full valet at a car wash to remove traces of Mr Smith's blood.
