A new app that offers "pay-per-day" travel insurance straight from your smartphone is to be launched in the UK. Travel money provider Revolut said its new service will provide instant medical and dental protection, starting at less than £1 per day. The company, which launched two years ago, said customers can register for travel insurance - at any point - at the tap of a button. It then uses geolocation techology to track your location, and when abroad, automatically applies insurance to protect you. How does the travel insurance app work? Customers will need to register with Revolut to take out the travel insurance , which also covers overseas emergency assistance and expenses, depending on how much you pay. A London couple who were forced to cancel a trip to Uganda after their son was unexpectedly diagnosed with hepatitis have described their incredulity after InsureandGo refused their £1,440 cancellation claim because he had a pre-existing condition: teenage acne. Tom Bennett* and family say InsureandGo, one of the biggest travel insurers, used a clause buried in its terms and conditions to say that because he was being treated for the skin condition before they bought the policy, it won’t pay the cancellation claim. The trip was cancelled because of the hepatitis, which had not been diagnosed before they bought the insurance. After taking several further weeks to re-examine the case, InsureandGo told Money it stands by the decision. It said paying out “would be highly unethical and unfair to other customers”. The executive at the centre of the City watchdog’s botched handling of an insurance industry investigation is to quit, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has confirmed, two days before a report into the episode. The FCA’s director of supervision, Clive Adamson, is expected to leave in January; its communications director, Zitah McMillan, is also leaving. The results of an independent inquiry are to be published on Wednesday by Simon Davis, a partner at the law firm Clifford Chance. The inquiry was set up after Adamson disclosed details of the FCA’s investigation into 30m policies sold between the 1970s and 2000 in a Daily Telegraph interview, sending insurance shares tumbling. The chancellor, George Osborne, said at the time that he was “profoundly concerned” by the bungled announcement. The FCA’s chief executive, Martin Wheatley, admitted its handling of the affair, in March, was not its “finest hour”. Richard Grieco, who played Detective Dennis Booker in the popular police television drama, was allegedly yelling at airline employees and slurring his speech as he tried to fly from Texas to Pennsylvania, according to TMZ. Grieco, 54, was denied boarding and brought to the attention of cops at Dallas/Forth Worth International Airport. He reportedly admitted to officers that he had consumed two cranberry and vodkas before the flight. It's claimed by law enforcement sources speaking to the website that the actor smelled of alcohol as he hunched over the counter, shouted at employees, and displayed slurred speech.
