China is clearly developing the capability to attack at some point, but deciding to do so would be a political choice, Gen Mark Milley told the BBC. China says Taiwan is a breakaway province that must be re-unified with the mainland, by force if necessary. It has accused the US of supporting Taiwan's independence, and vowed to "resolutely crush" any such attempt. There has been a marked escalation recently between China and the US - Taiwan's most powerful ally. The new head of the army has cancelled the deployment of a Parachute Regiment battalion to Kosovo after recent discipline lapses including an alleged orgy in their Colchester base. In a letter to all serving and retired parachute regiment soldiers and their families, Lieutenant General Andrew Harrison, the Colonel Commandant of the Paras, said the new head of the Army had “temporarily lost trust” in the unit’s 3rd battalion. General Sir Patrick Sanders , the Chief of the General Staff (CGS), only took over the top job on Monday of this week.
