The White House said Monday that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will be working to expedite the importation of baby formula to address nationwide shortages caused in part by the shutdown of a major supplier in Michigan. "FDA will prioritize review of applications that are most likely to be successful and will get the most formula to U.S. shelves as quickly as possible," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at the White House briefing. "Companies will need to apply with the FDA, and FDA is prepared to review applications quickly and respond to them rapidly." She promised, "All companies will meet the FDA's gold standard for quality control, and only safe products will come to America's shelves." THE decomposed body of a woman who vanished after a shopping trip to Costco has been found days after her car re-emerged. Samantha Tomlinson, 37, went missing last December. Her skeletal remains were discovered in California’s Sierra National Forest last week. Crews had launched a new search for Samantha on May 2 after her Honda Civic was found near Shaver Lake. The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office believes the car had been covered in snow throughout the winter, which is why it wasn’t found sooner. A search crew found bones on May 4 in rough terrain about a half-mile from where the avid hiker's car was located. The Abbott baby formula manufacturing facility in Michigan that has been shuttered since February is "likely" to resume operations in two weeks, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Under fire from parents and politicians, President Joe Biden's administration on Monday is expected to announce an agreement to reopen the largest domestic manufacturing plant of infant formula as well as ease import rules to allow supplies from overseas, amid a nationwide shortage . A consent decree between Abbott and the FDA paving the way for reopening the plant is "forthcoming," said Brian Deese, director of the White House's National Economic Council.
