Thanksgiving air travel down 60 percent from last year, as officials tell people to stay home
In a sign that many people are heeding officials' request to stay home for Thanksgiving, airplane travel in the days leading up to Thanksgiving is down about 60 percent from the same time last year. Cases of a new coronavirus in the United States have now surpassed 12 million. With spikes in cases occurring across the country, deaths on Tuesday were higher than they've been in six months. Officials urged people to stay home and imposed quarantine requirements for out-of-state visitors. While more people are traveling than health experts would like, there's been a significant decrease from the usual holiday influx via plane travel. Historically, more people travel around Thanksgiving than any other time of the year, and the Wednesday before the turkey-centric holiday is the busiest travel day of the year. However, as has been the case since the pandemic started, the outbreak stunted travel around the holiday. About 1.52 million fewer people traveled on Tuesday than on the Tuesday … [Read more...] about Thanksgiving air travel down 60 percent from last year, as officials tell people to stay home
Ten years on from Egypt’s Arab Spring – what has become of the Tahrir Square revolutionaries?
The last time I spent an afternoon with Mina Naguib, both he and his revolutionary ideals were about to take an unexpected battering. It was the height of Egypt's Arab Spring revolution and, in Cairo's Tahrir Square where he and thousands of others were demanding the downfall of President Hosni Mubarak, we had just survived what became known as the "Battle of the Camels". A mob of Mubarak supporters, some of them on camelback, pictured below, had attacked the crowd, hoping to disperse them with a humpbacked cavalry charge. Yet, the demonstrators had stood firm, pelting the attackers with stones and dragging them off their mounts. The revolution, it seemed, had weathered a stern test. Then, as Mina left for the day, he got a reminder that outside Tahrir Square, the old, reactionary Egypt was still very much there. "I was trying to get a cab when some more Mubarak supporters saw me," he recalls. "One said to me: 'Our houses are getting looted because of you stupid kids causing … [Read more...] about Ten years on from Egypt’s Arab Spring – what has become of the Tahrir Square revolutionaries?

VLADIMIR Putin had cancer in the past but "licked it" his pal film director Oliver Stone has claimed. Meghan and Harry’s sweet anniversary tradition as Sussexes celebrate 4 years of marriage
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are today celebrating their fourth wedding anniversary. The California couple have now been married for four years, tying the knot in a beautiful ceremony at Windsor Castle. They follow a sweet tradition for the anniversary each year, a reminder of the importance of their marriage as the two have gone through rocky and turbulent times together . The Duke and Duchess of Sussex ditched royal duties and Harry was stripped of his military titles by the Queen, while he has also gone through a rift with his brother Prince William and father Prince Charles . Meghan's time with the royals was particularly difficult, later alleging that press coverage and the lack of sympathy from other senior royals had left her feeling like she "didn't want to be alive anymore". Despite the difficult patches, Harry and Meghan have happily brought two children, Archie and Lilibet, into the world after they got married. So how will they be celebrating their … [Read more...] about Meghan and Harry’s sweet anniversary tradition as Sussexes celebrate 4 years of marriage

Mountains of grain left to rot as Vladimir Putin ‘blackmails the world’
From his seafront offices in the port city of Odesa, shipping logistics boss Viktor Berestenko looks out on Ukraine’s biggest and busiest shipping port. Or at least he used to. “Take a look out that window there,” he says, pointing at a terminal where shipping containers are piled like Lego bricks across an area the size of several football pitches. “Do you see any ships coming from there? No. That is the biggest terminal in Ukraine - and it is the same situation with every other terminal in the country.” The emptiness of the sea around the port is matched by the emptiness of the office Mr Berestenko stands in. Since Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine three months ago, when Russian warships blockaded Odesa and other Black Sea ports, the 112 employees of his firm, Inter Trans Logistics, have been unable to work. Nor have any of the hundreds of other freight forwarding workers in town. Such firms are used to working in challenging conditions, their trade being forever at … [Read more...] about Mountains of grain left to rot as Vladimir Putin ‘blackmails the world’
Netflix shares slide after it loses 200,000 subscribers
Netflix shares are sinking sharply after the streaming service suffered its first subscriber loss in more than a decade. The company's customer base fell by 200,000 subscribers during the January-March period, the company disclosed Tuesday in releasing its latest earnings report. Netflix's stock price plunged more than 37% to $219.50 in early trading on Wednesday as investors fretted about the company's slowing growth and mounting competition. UBS analysts downgraded their rating on Netflix's stock from "buy" to "neutral," citing fierce competition in streaming, economic headwinds and market saturation. The decline in subscribers is the first since Netflix became available throughout most of the world outside of China six years ago. The drop this year stemmed in part from Netflix's decision to withdraw from Russia to protest the war against Ukraine , resulting in a loss of 700,000 subscribers. Even so, Netflix acknowledged its problems are deep-rooted by projecting a … [Read more...] about Netflix shares slide after it loses 200,000 subscribers
