Johnny Depp may return to ‘Fantastic Beasts’ post-court win—Mads Mikkelsen

August 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Mads Mikkelsen has teased Johnny Depp may return to the Fantastic Beasts franchise after the star said he was asked to quit the film series. The Danish actor replaced Depp as the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald in 2020 after Depp lost his libel case over over domestic abuse allegations stemming from his marriage to ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp played Grindelwald in the first two films of the Harry Potter spin-off franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald . Mikkelsen stepped in for the third installment, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore , which hit theaters in April 2022, just before Depp's highly publicized trial began. But Depp could be making a comeback to Fantastic Beasts following his win in a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard in June. Mikkelsen hinted the door could be open again for Depp after his headline-dominating court battle. "Obviously, well, now the course has changed—he … [Read more...] about Johnny Depp may return to ‘Fantastic Beasts’ post-court win—Mads Mikkelsen

Lack of secure accommodation for children a scandal, judge says

August 16, 2022 by www.bbc.co.uk

Published 1 hour ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing A judge has blasted a shortage of accommodation for troubled children as a "national scandal" after being told there were just two places free for 62 youngsters in England and Wales. Mr Justice Francis said those in crisis with behavioural difficulties were not being "properly provided for". He raised concern after being asked to make decisions about the future of a teenage girl in council care in Wales. She is currently on a psychiatric ward where most others were adults. And she had been in a self-contained wing at a nursing home and looked after by two carers rather than in secure accommodation. Mr Justice Francis, based in the the Family Division of the High Court in London, said everyone agreed that the ward was not suitable for the girl, and described it as the "least-worst option". Early help for … [Read more...] about Lack of secure accommodation for children a scandal, judge says

‘Panicking’ mum-of-four who was left stranded on M60 when Green Flag refused to rescue her hit and killed by truck

August 16, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk

A "PANICKING" mum who was stranded on the M60 when Green Flag refused to rescue her was hit and killed by a truck just minutes after calling for help. Shirley-Ann Dumbuya, 38, had broken down near junction 20 of the motorway and couldn't move her car from the hatch marked area separating lane one from the slip road. And tragically, the mum from Moston, Greater Manchester , was killed when lorry driver John Bowers failed to notice her stationary Kia Ceed - hitting and killing the mum as she sat inside the car. The judge has now slammed Green Flag for not helping Shirley-Ann, saying: “Green Flag should take it upon themselves to ring 999 to help the person who was obviously panicking, wondering whether to stay or get out of the vehicle, and worrying about the other cars on the motorway. "This was an accident waiting to happen." How Amber Heard can win her appeal against Depp, according to lawyers

August 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Amber Heard's legal team has undergone a major shake-up with the actress's attorney, Elaine Bredehoft, stepping down ahead of the appeal against the Johnny Depp verdict. A number of legal experts agree that the Aquaman star is making a "smart move" by reshuffling her counsel for the appellate trial and some have weighed in on how her team can pursue a court victory this time. In July, Heard filed a motion at the Circuit Court of Fairfax County to appeal the defamation verdict. She has hired two new lawyers for her appeal: David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown of the firm Ballard Spahr. "In order for Heard's appeal to be successful, her counsel will need to convince the appellate court that there was such a mistake of law or fact that occurred during the trial and furthermore that the error caused harm to her ability to receive a fair trial," Eric D. Subin, senior trial attorney and partner at Subin Associates, told Newsweek . The blockbuster defamation trial between the … [Read more...] about How Amber Heard can win her appeal against Depp, according to lawyers

Seven Rotorua reserves a step closer to being sold for housing

August 15, 2022 by www.stuff.co.nz

Seven of 10 Rotorua reserve sites identified for revocation and sale for housing have progressed to the next stage. The decision was made at a Rotorua Lakes Council Strategy, Policy and Finance Committee meeting on Thursday, in a marathon three-hour session that became heated at times, with accusations of “electioneering”. About 40 people filled most of the public gallery for the debate and decision, which had caused heated public debate in the months leading up to it. The proposal set out to revoke the reserve status of 10 sites in order to sell them for a mixture of public and open-market sale for housing . It had attracted more than 600 submissions , petitions with thousands of signatures, and more than 100 people providing verbal submissions over four days of hearings. Trump warrant: Prosecutors oppose releasing search evidence

August 16, 2022 by www.bbc.co.uk

Published 8 hours ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing The US Department of Justice says releasing details about the warrant used to raid Donald Trump's Florida home last week could cause "irreparable damage" to its investigation. It wants to keep the affidavit, a court document showing the evidence required to obtain the warrant, under wraps. FBI agents searched Mar-a-Lago to find out if Mr Trump improperly handled government records when he left office. It was the first time an ex-president's home was raided in a criminal probe. Eleven sets of classified files were recovered from the search one week ago at the estate in Palm Beach, according to the warrant, which was released on Friday. The Tories have opened the gates for illegal immigrants. We need a Brexit 2.0 to fix it

August 16, 2022 by www.telegraph.co.uk

Four months ago, Boris Johnson travelled to Lydd Airport in Kent to make what was billed as a significant announcement about the Government’s plan to tackle illegal immigration via the English Channel. Normally, such a statement would have been made by the Home Secretary, Priti Patel, but this was “the big one”, so the Prime Minister delivered it personally. His pledges excited much media interest and growing optimism that a solution to this crisis had been found. I, for one, never believed a word of it. The centrepiece of the new plan was that the Ministry of Defence would take charge of the Channel and the Royal Navy would patrol our waters 24 hours a day, intercepting small boats . Armed Forces Minister James Heappey spoke with passion about the deterrent effect this would have. It was obvious from day one, however, that this idea had not been fully thought through. I interviewed the then-Minister for Tackling Illegal Migration, Tom Pursglove, at the time and explained to him … [Read more...] about The Tories have opened the gates for illegal immigrants.
