The Ombudsman’s Office today celebrates its 20th anniversary with a reception of Public Service Ombudsmen from Malta, England, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Today marks 20 years since Parliament enacted the Public Services Ombudsman Act 1988. This was shortly followed by the establishment of the Office of the Ombudsman. King Tupou VI and Chinese President Xi Jinping have exchanged congratulatory messages on November 2 to mark two decades of diplomatic ties between their countries. The 20th anniversary of China and Tonga’s diplomatic ties was also celebrated on the same day at the Chinese Embassy in Nuku‘alofa. In his message to King Tupou VI, President Xi said that bilateral ties had grown continuously with the expansion of practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges over the past two decades. He said he greatly valued China-Tonga relations and was willing to make use of the opportunity of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations to strengthen exchanges and cooperation. Families were treated to an unusual sc-fi spectacle in Burton as Transformers character Optimus Prime dropped in to say hello in true Hollywood style. Burton toy firm Midco Toys, which is celebrating trading in the town for 16 years, brought the heroic space robot, made famous in the popular US movie franchise The Transformers, to Burton's Market Place. In collaboration with toy firm Hasbro and Burton Market Hall, the Burton firm showed off a huge 30ft truck in the style of the vehicle which Optimus 'transforms' into. Among the fans was three-year-old Austin Kendrick, dressed as fellow Transformers character Bumblebee. On Saturday, October 27, children were also able to claim free Transformer figures and goodie bags from the Toymaster store , based in Burton's High Street. Dog owners have come up with bizarre names for their pets, research reveals - with a Yorkshire Terrier called I am Sparticus and a Border Collie called Bacardi Breezer.
